Even the "Viva Viagra" commercial had a little more kick that the Eagles "How Long" Video. A co-worker went to see them last week. They opened the show with 4 new songs. He's a big fan, he left after 6 songs. Tickets were almost $300 each. I think I'll save my money for the Blue Note 45's and pass on this Walmart special

Well just listened to a group of samples for the album. Got to track 6 - what a load of garbage. Even 4 out of them were boring and I like the Eagles.

It has an appropriate title though ("I Don't Want To Hear Any More").

I knew it was a bad sign when the first single was a song they performed in 1972.

Sorry to say, but this album is horrible.

While I MIGHT have bought this album just out of curiosity, think I am gonna give it a good listen online first. The Eagles say Corporate Rock like no other band to me. Seems like just another oppurtunity for the guys to cash in.
Oh, and no Felder either.... :shake:

Maybe Henley shouldn't have played the drums.

One really does get the impression that they dont like each other that they are having a bad time.

Hey I give the album a passing grade its sort of somber I'm not even a big Eagles fan but you know 30 years in the making only the seventh studio album in 34 years 19 songs but its just a little dreary. Frey sounds great Joe plays nice guitar and the other guitar guy was good.

Did Henley really sing--Gimme some of that brisket ? in the title cut ?

I'm gonna buy it though eventually

Sadly enough Joe Walsh who is an official band member has less writing credits on the album than their touring guitarist/co-producer Steuart Smith, Walsh also plays less lead guitar live and from the sound of this album Smith plays more lead on this album than Walsh (Smith plays the lead on How Long also). The money must be that good for Walsh, since I'd so rather see him as a solo artist or doing James Gang-reunions rather than in the current state of Eagles.

Yes, he does say "gimme some of that barbecue brisket" or something along those lines.

You are not kidding I don't think I have been so disappointed for years in an album. Absolute drivel- god help us if that is the best of the songs they recorded just think what they binned.

Don't mean to sound like a jerk but how can anyone be surprised? I haven't anything from these guys since the 80's that had any originality, except Walsh. Some of the album is OK but it's cliche beyond belief....IMHO., of course.

The radio and billboard ads in the U.K. use the line ''Do you remember when music sounded this good?''.

well.... some songs do sound like something that belongs on a solo album and doesnt sound eagles. Like "Somebody" , I like this song a lot, but sounds more like a GF solo song. sounds 80's too but I like that sound and the song works. its very very good. but not eagles.

a lot of the songs have good ideas or start out good. but just when I think the flow of the song is gonna go one way, they go the opposite way. it also doesnt sound like eagles stuff, like they wrote it together or it was all worked on as eagles badn stuff.

the stuff is good and has great ideas, they just missed and didnt hit a home run. they should have re-thought parts of some of the songs. they would have worked better if they went another way(flow). some DH stuff sounds 80's and something off of something solo he would have done back then.

its not a bad album though. cant imagine it sounds good(mastering) having as many songs as it does on it.

You guys are a tough crowd!

Hey if you like the Eagles for the first time in 28 years they did an album! it has nineteen tracks!

I was a little dumbfounded at first it was like hey this album has some problems. But you know hey it has some good moments. I couldn't believe they had four or five tracks that clocked between 7-10 minutes I couldn't believe how so many sounded kind of like solo tracks. I couldnt believe the sluggish tempos on so many. I couldnt believe how bad I thought Timmy schmitts song was. It doesnt seem to be happy anywhere ?

But I'm gonna buy it its well recorded and polished and they only do one every 28 years !

The Eagles and Wal-Mart, I likes it. They took their que from Martha Stewart Living. I still need to return those scratchy poly bed sheets...I'll pick up the CD while I'm there... ;)

Actually, it is an excellent idea. Wallmart typically sells new releases of
music and videos at a loss during the first few days of release.

This album from the views expressed here must totally suck. You'd think that with the money they have and access to outside songs, and experience in the studio, they would have come up with a really good sounding lite version of an Eagles album. You know, put all the trade mark sound together with the right hired help and bought songs, and kept it short to hide the filler better. But I guess they are so far removed from what they were in the 70s that it just can't be done now.

I agree, what a joke. Are we really suppose to take the message seriously after selling the album exclusively at "Slave-Labor Mart". It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

As much as I hate the idea of doing it, I plan on going into my local WALMART this morning and picking up a copy of the new album. I've only heard the first single and I immediately thought that it sounded like some early seventies song, then I found out I was right, as it's an old J.D. Souther track. With just the fact that Don Henley said, only a few years ago, that THE EAGLES would release a new album when, they (I assume he meant the other members) wrote some good songs, instead of the junk that they've been bringing to the table recently. It looks like he got tired of waiting, from what I've read from you guys so far.

I certainly don't expect anything brilliant on this, no matter if it's 8 songs or a hundred. A good song, is a good song, a great album (Hotel California), is a great album and a once great group that gave up years ago, is a great group that has since, SOLD OUT!

Maybe HELL should have stayed frozen, after all...

well I did order it from walmart.com, but still felt this was worth posting....

    from dallasnews.com

"Yet if there's an underlying message lurking around Long Road Out of Eden, it is one of individuality and accountability. The Eagles are a band with nothing to prove, at least not creatively. It's also an entity comprised of savvy men. The set is on the Eagles' imprint, eschewing the major label machinery. You can only get it at Wal-Mart for a cheap $11.88 or through www.eaglesband.com.

These guys are in control. They made the music, they chose the packaging and they picked the retailer. They went the independent route because they could, not because they had to. There's no balking at that kind of power." :sigh:
