    What are they, then?

If you read the sticker on the box shown in the first post, it says something about DTS 5.1 and Advanced Resolution ... and all three discs were previously released in the DVD-Audio format. Also, by reading the sticker, it looks like the bonus disc is only a regular CD. I was hoping for another DVD-A.

    Dolby Digital 5.1...and, I think, DTS 5.1

Folks, I merged the new thread started by spotlightkid with the existing thread on the Fagen box set. Questions were asked in the new thread that are covered in the existing thread.

Remember, the search engine is your friend. :)

So, did the Fagen box come out today? If so, how is the sound?

MVI is bogus. They're DVDs or DVD-As.

Another name to confuse people. Great.

    As someone else said, I don't think they're DVD-As.

The term 'Advanced Resolution' means absolutely nothing.

What does the "Interactive" part in MVI mean? Is it a Karaoke disc? ;)

They are not DVD-As, but they do have higher than normal LPCM streams on the DVD for the stereo presentation. They could be 48/24 LPCM, which is "Advanced Resolution", even if the discs are NOT DVD-A.

You're right. But Warners loves to throw the term around when referring to non-Dolby & non-DTS "high-quality" audio ... universally used by them when discussing DVD-Audio discs or Neil Young's super-saturated stereo audio-only DVDs.

If they've got a 5.1 surround sound LPCM option, then they are (or used to be called) DVD-audio discs, correct?

I thought Steely Dan was the voice/composer behind all those Steely Dan tunes.

Next, you'll tell me Jethro Tull isn't the name of that flute playing guy.

Anyhoo, I'd love to tell you all how it sounds, but according to Amazon I have to wait till it ships NEXT week. Even though I pre-ordered it back in July. :realmad:

  22. MVI's are DVD's, not DVD-A's. They are marketed as playing on "standard DVD players." Standard DVD's support up to 24/96 uncompressed PCM, so they are cable of higher-res sound.

Yes, it is just another stupid remarketing move, like "DualDisc." It will probably last just as long.

The labels need to stand behind DVD-A and SACD, and stop all this nonsense with CD + DVD packaging, "MVI," "DualDisc," etc. It just makes no sense.

  23. And which one was "Pink," anyway?
