I don't think there are any mix differences, just length. "Why Worry" (IIRC) is only the lyrical part on the LP for the first 5 minutes, then fades out. The CD goes on for another 3 minutes of just instrumental music.

I was never aware of the channel switching on the Vertigo CD. I'll have to compare with my WB LP and my Vertigo 12" single for "Money for Nothing (Full Length Version)".

The Vertigo CD is superior to the SACD stereo - it's not that close. But, the 5.1 mix is wild, and this one is still widely available for $15 - $20. It's worth that, imho.

The one that I really like for sonics is the Vertigo CD of the third album (forget the title, Motion Pictures? - the one with "Romeo and Juliet").

I thought that my Vertigo CD was made in the UK by PDO. Is that one channel-reversed?

I have several of the Matsushita and one odd ball Japan for US. Guessing it's either that Dai Kosan or Sanyo...Keith...how can I tell?

I just got the West German Vertigo for Japan, but haven't ripped it yet.....is this the one with the reversed channels?

I think I prefer the early faded Why Worry. Happy with either version of Your Latest Trick. Not too bothered about So Far Away or Money for Nothing being truncated on the vinyl. Maybe I would be if I liked the first track more and IIRC MfN is not massively truncated. I could be wrong. Feel free to correct me.

They must of converted the low rez 16 bit recording to analog and then record a hi rez version of that! The original CD is fine with me.

I only have the old "made in the USA" Warner CD and frankly I am happy with it but...never compared with the WG as I do not own a copy..is it any different? Thanks

I have the original, the XRCD and the SACD. The SACD sounds the best.

Another question. Since it's fully digital, why is there a need to remaster it in the first place? Everything is in 1s and 0s on the tapes and it won't change no matter what latest machine you use.

Unless, maybe to add compression and EQ...

For the Japan-for-U.S. pressings, they should say which plant pressed them. The Sanyo pressing will have "MANUFACTURED BY SANYO JAPAN" stamped in the mirror band. I can't check my Daio Kosan pressing right now, but it probably says Daio Kosan somewhere on the label side.

Your West German Vertigo disc is the same as the others that have been mentioned here. Your copy takes the standard West German Vertigo disc and accompanying inserts and adds a 32PD OBI card ("card", not a "strip", since it covers the entire back insert) and a 32PD Japanese lyric sheet inside the booklet.

I like the DVD-Audio portion of the DualDisc best. It's been years since I listened to the XRCD, so I can't say much about it. The early West German and Japanese pressings all sound great to me, but I have to go with DVD-Audio here.

The copy I saw was 5.1. Is this a separate disc or the out of print dual disc?

There is also multi-channel hybrid SACD.

I've heard the XRCD and the Japan for USA annihilated it in no uncertain terms for me. For the detail hungry listener I guess it could work, but it lacks the natural sound I enjoy. The W. German Vertigo CD's aren't bad at all... however, I will be keeping my favorite WB Japan for USA.

I just checked my copy. It is "made in West Germany by Polygram", and it is a very early issue with smooth top case. The channels appear to be the same as the SACD, with the hi-hat in the intro to "So Far Away" on the left side. So is this the correct channel orientation or is the SACD reversed as well?

To be clear, there is no stand-alone DVD-Audio disc, unfortunately.
