BIA was pretty cheap. $21 CDN shipped. I really am looking forward to it. The 5.1 might take the "burn-out" out of the songs. I got sick of that cd fast. Too much airplay.

    Received mine today.

Anyone noticed under the track listing on the back of the booklet (in the regular SACD version), there's the announcement....

    COMING NOVEMBER 2005
THE VERY BEST OF DIRE STRAITS AND MARK KNOPFLER

Will it be on Blu-Ray? :D

I wonder how this compares sonically with the XRCD from JVC (import). A friend of mine has it and it is incredible....one wonders with a 16/44 if the SACD sounds better due mostly to a new mastering on modern gear or lower jitter in SACD or both?

Recieved mine from Amazon.uk today and it is a winner.:)

The 5.1 mix is stupendous. Big beautiful soundstage. Very immersive. Fun fun fun! These songs have never sounded better.

"Walk Of Life" sounds joyous. "Why Worry" is awesome.

I love the swirling keyboard effect at the beginning of "Money For Nothing".

This SACD is easily a must buy for surround maniacs.

So, this is import only? (A U.K. only release? )

It appears that way. I searched every brick 'n mortor in Dallas and came up empty. Finally ordered one from CDWOW.com (UK based company).

I heard parts of this SACD today in the showroom of the Linn Hi-Fi distributor. I must say that I was impressed. My CD of this (original West German pressing) was always bright and clinical. In comparison (another room, another system, etc) the SACD sounded much warmer and very much right. The tracks I heard (Why Worry and another) were well handled for surround - there was more than the simple ambience that is on some discs, but without being overly agressive and offputting, like the DVD-A of Rumours.

    I'm getting a copy!

I'm not sure why, but the vinyl of this title sounds quite a bit better than either the original CD or the remaster. I understand your reasoning for expecting a letdown, but mine is a second-hand RCA Music Club pressing, and it still bests the CDs, which I always thought sounded fine, if a little clinical.

Unlike the Elton John SACD mixes that some found too bright, this Dire Straits mix is just right for everyone.

The 5.1 Advanced Resolution tracks will get plenty of play in my HT.

Just another great demo disc to show off surround sound. :)

I thought GBYR was really good, but I look forward to listening to BIA.

I couldn't agree more....fantastic 5:1 mix. I think I have a challenger for best SACD in my collection which is "Avalon" right now.

The respective timings on the SACD are:

    So Far Away 5:12
    Money For Nothing 8:25
    Walk of Life 4:12
    Your Latest Trick 6:33
    Why Worry 8:30
    Ride Across The River 6:58
    The Man's Too Strong 4:40
    One World 3:40
    Brothers in Arms 6:59

So a total of four tracks are significantly longer on the CD (between at least 1 minute up to 3 minutes). Especially "Your Latest Trick" (great trumpet intro) and "Why Worry" (long instrumental part at the end) really benefit from the CD version.

The other five tracks are identical to the LP version.

But it was always this way, the CD was longer than the album, that was one of the advantages of the then new medium cd in 1985

Compared to the original cd the new SACD doesn't give any longer versions. The sound is great, it never sounded any better.
But I doubt, that "Brothers in Arms" will push the SACD like it used to do with the cd.
