This thread is Priceless, I can't stop laughing because it's so true! Look at all the "Classic Yacht Rockers" who are still milking it!

Well, you wouldn't rate Love Beach higher than Rumours or Hotel California, would you?:shh:

When I read this thread I remebered these guys (I have even some of their album, audiofile pressings no less :hide:). Aren't these guys the true captains of yacht rock?

    Neither, especially the latter comment.

Pablo Cruise is a very representative band for yacht rock, certainly in the name and also the aggressive facial and body hair the band sported. You also have the tropical motif found on some of their better tracks like "A Place In The Sun", "Worlds Away", and their cover of Peter Allen's "I Go To Rio". They even recorded a song called "Sailing To Paradise" though it's not very good.

I wouldn't rate them too high on musical quality, though, and I'm a YR guy who really tried to like them. Steely Dan they are not.

Didn't Burton Cummings venture into false yacht rock after leaving The Guess Who? He definitely had the 'stashe for it.

Actually, I think they fit pretty well, stylistically. Especially a song like "Down Under."

Much like the Batmobile could transform into a submarine, Marty Balin made sure that the Starship could always turn back into a yacht.

Just too funny. Dear boy, you would have been a perfect fit for Creem Magazine circa '70/'71. I mean that as a compliment.

The reason I mentioned them was because "Down Under" was the anthem for the crew of Australia II, the yacht that won the 1983 America's Cup. I now know that the power of yacht rock that helped them toward their victory! :D

Poly Styrene was never accused of making Yacht Rock, false or otherwise.
