BTW, currently it's cheaper here and here. But you'll also need a telescope...

(BTW, there's currently a 10% discount via a voucher code at Grooves-Inc site, and, as usual, you get free shipping for all orders above 20 €; if you need the code drop me a PM.)

    Ooh, good to know.

Thanks, I will. Though at the moment I'm leaning towards one of the 2-CD-sets.

Me too, actually (I'm really hungry for Shubert). Now I'm going to compare samples...

I saw that one today and thought it would be perfect for pmckeeaalaska to get into classical music. It contains many of the better known pieces from all eras and should give you a great overview and starting point.

It looks like it, doesn't it? :D
Actually the painting is called "Ahasuerus at the End of the World" and the painter is the mysterious Adolph Hiremy-Hirschl (1860-1933)

Schubert : The Last Four Quartets
String Quartet No. 14 in D minor. D. 810 "Death and the Maiden"
    (also D. 804, D. 887, D. 703)

    Quartetto Italiano

    Nice warm analog-like sound and is a dirt-cheap 2-fer.

Of course, us metalheads are very familiar with Les trésors de satan by Belgian painter, Jean Delville (1867-1953). Morbid Angel used it for their classic 1991 opus, Blessed Are the Sick, after previous use a couple years earlier by Leslie Howard on a Hyperion release. In the credits of the album, Morbid Angel guitarist Trey Azagthoth praises, above all, two musicians: Eddie Van Halen and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Thanks for the recommendation. At the moment I'm looking at these two (or rather three) discs.

Both can be gotten cheap and seem to have a few fans. This should give me a nice collection of Schubert's essential string works.

I got it when Concord was closing out titles. Cheap. But Sousa, Grainger, Vaughan Williams et al in lieu of Bach.

I like the pairing of the 13th and 14th by the Alban Berg Quartet, but it doesn't look to be readily available.

    This one?

I listened to that one via my online streaming service earlier this evening (for me) and I liked it well, but the applause at the end of each quartet annoyed me a little to be honest. But the performance was very good.
