Yes, many late 60's-mid 70's pressings were cut by him.

My last really good dollar record was a minty orig. Mercury Living Presence stereo LP by Pepe Romero titled Flamenco, Mercury SR90297.

My most beloved Mozart work, the K. 452 Quintet for piano and winds in my most preferred recording and the traditional coupling with Beethoven's op. 16.

There are relatively few works with that particular instrumentation. It seems to me that relatively early in his career, Beethoven tried to emulate Mozart's writing for winds. In addition to op. 16, op. 11 was a clarinet trio (similar to Mozart's K. 498, but substituting the cello for the viola), op. 17 was a sonata for horn and piano, and op. 20 was the septet for winds and strings. After that Beethoven never wrote another significant piece of chamber music that included a wind instrument.

Indeed, he gave up beans in 1803.

    Teen Spirit?

If I've read my biographies correctly, somewhere during his "Late Period" his olfactory judgement flew out the window. Note, in this mid-period photograph, how his eyelids are already like little slits doubtless due to the caffeine addiction that so cruelly shortened his life.

I guess the Laudanum didn't help much either.

Beethoven could not even hear the performance of his crowning achievement - the 9th, as he was totally deaf by then ... :sigh:

Well before that, actually. Looks like he became totally deaf around the time of Op. 90, in 1814. Symphony 9 would come 10 years later.

I'm sure LvB heard it in his head better than the first time it was played.

Of course. It was one of my earliest CD purchases back in early 90s. I never replaced it with the remastered versions. Should I?

Given where the image comes from, that shouldn't be too hard.

Also, I I know that some of the Schnabel/Fournier performances were issued on Pearl. Transfers by Seth Winner. I have nos 3-5, coupled with some solo Brahms. I am not sure how many they recorded together. Do you know?

I haven't heard it, but I find those Philips (and Decca) twofers to have great mastering, usually using the original mastering.
