The same for me. (I guess I've had it on as background in the office). Actually I rather like Glenn Gould's Brahms disc.

I love the late piano works of Brahms. I was never as taken by the Katchen recordings as the critics are. This recent two-cd set of Nicholas Angelich playing op. 116 through op. 119 features moving performances and wonderful SQ:

I've probably listened to the Skull 'n' Roses Bertha more times than Klieber's Fifth—both of 'em, combined!

Dervaux ... a great conductor that you don't hear much. Try this CD. It is amazing with many little heard pieces.

I have all of Angelich's Brahms CD's, that's his specialty. He appears to be slowly completing the complete works for piano: Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 76 with Paavo Jarvi/Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra to be released in North America in June. He is an American living in France full-time, btw, just like Katchen.

Just picked up the boxes I passed on yesterday. Couldn't pass up the prices: $35 even for both, 11 discs and minty.

Just placed an order on the following CD's. Most are oldies but goodies and a few I have had on LP for years. The Handel oratorios are mostly the third or fourth version of the same works ...

I am not overly religious about classical works performed on period instruments. But for baroque works, I prefer period instruments. I have many Mozart symphonies performed on modern instruments as well. The Mozart sets by Hogwood and Pinnock were my most recent acquisitions.

Pretty nice series; i heard one out oof that and liked it..

Today ztwo more mellow and light classical recordings for me. Miles Davis Live 1964 My Funny Valentine and Michelle Shocked with short, sharp shocked (ANCHORAGE is one of the nicest FolkPop/Rock Songs ever imo from 1988) also blew my mnd..

The Belcanto of Miss Kathleen Battle lights up my night with beautiful sung and played Händel Aries and before that I heard the nice Prokofjiev Romeo & Juliette Ballet music. This time adapted for the Los Angeles Symphonics. Very easy and nice sounds with a huge dynamic range from very low to extremely loud. Had to watch the volume meter, which was pretty high from Miles Davis directly before. A stunning Live concert with the greatest rhythm section on earth Herbie Hancock piano, Tony Williams (18 yeas old at that time) drums, Ron Carter with a bass that can make your stomach sick if you ate too much and the horn all over the place with crazy sounds, yet always on point and in time for the swing. A rare recording that any Jazz interested person should own..
Anyway back to Classical Music- Two fine albums I can whole heartly recommend - not the average regular stuff but quality...
