I have a question: If these CD's were all pressed in 1983 do they all still actually play?

 

First, they weren't all pressed in '83. Some of the discs shown here were probably pressed as late as '85. CBS/Sony kept many 35DP and 35 8P catalog numbers active for a few years. In any case, yes, these discs still play just fine. I have hundreds of discs from '85 and earlier, and they all play perfectly.

 

Not just still play, in many cases those early presses are the best source available on CD, so they sound much better than their remastered counterparts, still playing and playing really good!

 

OK. As a public service, here is the revised list of the first 50 35DP titles. It's probably a good place to stop, although there are some pretty cool titles in the 35DP-50 range (Joni Mitchell's Wild Things Run Fast, Santana Abraxas, Pink Floyd Final Cut) and 35DP-60 range (the Miles Davis titles).

My 35DP-2 has just "101" in the matrix after the cat.#. CSRX3 in the hub. An early - but not earliest - pressing.

 

best part was I got it from an amazon seller for $12 and I thought it was gonna be a Japan for US from his description.

This came in the mail today....Third World - You've Got The Power (35DP 36)



Also a couple 35DH titles....Sadao Watanabe's "Orange Express" (35DH 7) and Kimiko Kasai's "Kimiko" (35DH 8 and is gold-faced)

 

Possibly the fact that the original master tape was intended to fit on the LP: two sides, the interesting thing is that it was indexed, so in the properly device you can follow every track recorded inside of those two tracks, only in this original japanese version and in the earlier Japan for USA you can find this feature, the which makes so desirable both versions.

 

Congrats on your finds, and in the enthusiasm getting the original 3/4 face design CD's
