Is the 3/4 black face design used in any other pressing besides the 3500 yen CDs?

There are some 42DP and other yen price CD's with the same 3/4 black face design, but they belong to the same era in my understanding.

BTW thanks for sharing those pictures!

And the information keeps flowing. Finally saw 35DP-23. It is Santana's Shango. Maybe it would be easier to just write to Sony Music and ask them for a list. . . .

Sony Ahead of their time... :)

Looks like the Sony folks had a good idea with the design of these discs...If ya squint just right, these first pressings look a lot like the MFSL gold CDs!

One of the "first 50" CBS/Sony releases from 10/1/82 (35-8P-3, 3/4 Blackface, gold tint). The Nolans' somewhat strangelly titled "Don't Love Me Too Hard". In my limited experience, this is not a common request.

That's funny. I had been looking for this in Japan for a couple of years. I finally found one on Ebay for $35, and now there's another one. I don't think there's a ton of demand for this title, but it is pretty rare. You see the other original Epic 35-8P titles (Julio Iglesias, Off the Wall, Hi Infidelity and Jeff Beck's There and Back) quite often here in Japan.

Do you know if all the original 50 titles were pressed in the same quantity?

That MIGHT be true of the original gold faced pressings, that would be a good question.

But it certainly is NOT true if you include the later silver face pressings. Over the years, I have seen dozens of copies of Toto IV 35DP 12 and Journey Escape 35DP 6. Others you rarely see -- some, like the Nolans title, probably just didn't sell many copies to begin with. Others, such as Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here 35DP 4, or the Simon & Garfunkel titles, were soon replaced with 32DP pressings and therefore were sold for shorter periods.

I ahve this catalog with a date of 1984. It lists many of the same titles, but with the "US" Prefix: EK, CK, etc.

Guys, I went ahead and made an album on Photobucket... You can check it out here.

You'll prolly notice, it's not sorting exactly as I would've liked, but I didn't want to add 0's to the titles to make it sort right...

This may prove to be a useful resource, but we're lacking quite a few images.
