    Otoniel, you left 35DP 27 blank in your initial post. It's Quarterflash Quarterflash.

    Also, you have an error for 35DP 15. It's Raise!, not Gratitude.

    As a Gort, I can update your list if you would like. :)

    The 35DP discs with the DPA matrix codes and barcodes are interesting. I have such a copy of 35DP 9 Friday Night in San Francisco.

    I hope you will indulge me, but I would like to share two unusual early CBS/Sony discs. The first one is an early test disc titled Super Audio Check CD. It's "Super", but not an SACD. ;) Anyway, it has the unusual catalog number 48DG 3.

    One more odd disc. This is an early promotional sampler titled Hear Digital Perfection: The Seasons. Note the blue coating. The catalog number is YEDS 9.

    Will do! :)

    Yes, but I propose that we maintain the theme of early Japanese CBS/Sony discs. We can go outside the first 50, but stay with Japanese CBS/Sony discs. This thread could get out of hand fast if we open it up to all first pressings. In case you were not a member at the time, our first-pressing threads in L&WT used to be posted in Music and people would post scans. These threads taxed the server, and it was decided to continue them without pictures.

    I think we are O.K. if we limit this thread to Japanese CBS/Sony discs.

    As a sideline item to this thread, I would like to construct a list of Japanese CBS/Sony issues with the three-quarter black-face design that exist with the later DPA matrix codes and barcodes in the mirror band. To start, these are the ones I have:

    * Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia Friday Night in San Francisco, 35DP 9

    * Rogers Waters The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, 35DP 149

    * Weather Report 8:30, 50DP 133-134

    I also have Friday Night in San Francisco and 8:30 with the early matrix code style and the catalog number in the matrix code. Although I don't have it, The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking exists that way as well.

    Additionally, it has been established that these titles exist with DPA matrix codes:

    * Journey Escape, 35DP 6
    * Barbra Streisand Guilty, 35DP 7
    * Journey Frontiers, 35DP 45

    I also have seen a DPA version of Boz Scaggs Hits!, 35DP 11.

    Something that could determine whether or not there is a DPA version is when the second Japanese issue came out, meaning how long the first issue was in print. If the second Japanese issue was a 25DP or even a CSCS from the late '80s, then the 35DP issue would have been in print for many years and there could be a DPA pressing. If, on the other hand, there is a 32DP issue from the mid-'80s, then there would not be a DPA pressing of the 35DP issue.

    The above theory assumes that the 35DP issue stayed in print until the second issue from the late '80s came out. That may not have always been the case. So, if a 35DP issue went out of print in 1986 and a second issue came out in 1988 (e.g., 25DP), then there may be no DPA pressing of the 35DP issue. It all depends on how long the 35DP issue was in print.

    I took a look at my silver-faced 35DP discs, and the only ones I had with a bar code in the matrix were Guilty and the following:

    Electric Light Orchestra - Discovery - 35DP 24

    My Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits Volume 2 - 35DP 161 has a bar code in the matrix area.

    Wow, I've never seen that Sony style label before and I started buying CD's in 1985 and have a lot of early Japanese for US sale discs. These pressings must be really rare. Were these sold in the US market?

    No. They were sold in Japan.

    With the first 50 CD titles, I'd think the classical titles, perhaps also the domestic Japanese titles, were pressed fewer in quantity than the pop/rock titles.

    I know the following titles, by the way:

    35DP-28 Willie Nelson/Always on My Mind
    35DP-29 Weather Report/ST
    35DP-33 Wynton Marsalis/ST

    For the life of me, I don't know 35DP-22 and -23, and it bothers me!!

    You have this listed as 35DP-38, but I am pretty sure that it is -28. I know someone who has this, so I will check.

    Thanks to everyone who posted pictures. It's a completely different (by which I mean better) experience from just reading a bunch of catalog numbers.
