I like Toto IV. I like it better than my MFSL - this could be, of course, because my main listening system is a bit dark.

I very rarely double dip (so far just Mofi UDI of "Darkside of the Moon" and the hybrid SACD version) but I recently purchased the "Stardust" SACD before it became OOP! That said, would it be silly for me to purchase the Mastersound of "Stardust" for my car listening pleasure? Same question goes for the SVR "Couldn't Stand the Weather" Mastersound.

...Oh, then there's the single layer SACD of "Blow by Blow" and its Mofi counterpart and the "Tapestry" Mastersound and the single layer SACD as well AND "Lady in Satin" Mastersound and SACD. Worth the double dips? My wallet already hates me!

A member here recently shared the opinion that the Stardust gold CD beat the SACD. That surprised me since I had always read great things about the SACD. I wonder how the current remastered CD stacks up.

For Couldn't Stand the Weather, no CD out there is going to compete with the SACD, but if you need a CD for the car, just get the current remastered disc. It is excellent.

I had originally put down the "Stardust" SACD as sounding thin and a bit aggressive, But since I got my SACD player's bass management all squared away (a special thanks to forum friend Jeffrey for helping me with this), I now find it to be rather good but a little louder than the Mastersound gold CD.

Both versions are very good IMO, but in different ways.

As far as the sound goes on the 1999 remaster, well I've never heard it so if anyone else has please chime in.

I still find it strange that the 2 bonus tracks from the remaster were not included on the SACD.

The Lady In Satin current issue is atrocious. It will peel the paint from the walls. The Gold CD is far better. I think it sounds good.

I've always enjoyed the following Mastersound discs:

Miles Davis - In A Silent Way
Miles Davis - A Tribute To Jack Johnson
    Miles Davis - Water Babies
    Miles Davis - Agharta
    Miles Davis - Pangaea
    Miles Davis - Big Fun
    Santana - S/T

I think there might be some confusion here. The Sony/Columbia Mastersound Gold CD's are what is being discussed here and not the MasterSound (the label) CD's. The only Miles Davis title in that series is Kind Of Blue, but Santana S/T, which is a good one, is in there as well.

Right, the others are Master Sound, but not Gold.

It is a remix. For enlightenment, look here, but be warned - you may end up with multiple mixes of this album and seeking more:

Anybody have the Indigo Girls s/t Mastersound? I run across it now and then, and have not gotten the remaster series version...is it worth it?

I have it. Bought it when it first came out and thought it sounded better than the standard CD at the time.

    Thanks aceman400,

does anybody know a good internet-page with collector-values of Mastersound-CDs. I know www.popsike.com for LPs. Is there anything like this for CDs?

I don't think there is one. Your best bet is doing some searches on completed listings on eBay.

Most go for $15 - $30. There are probably 10 or so that fetch significantly more.

LOL. Now that my main system isn't dark anymore, but balanced, I think I prefer MFSL's Toto IV. Goes to show you - there's no absolute truth. :D
