OK, thanks. I passed on Foundation Sounds because I didn't like the previous EP (Six Kinds Of Passion Looking For An Exit) and because the review that I read seemed to indicate Matthews was repeating himself. How do the new album compare to It's Heavy In Here and The Lateness Of The Hour ?

The first song on the Mortimer album is good--I mean really good--as is "Singing to the Sunshine," but the rest of the album hasn't really grabbed me yet.

Thanks for you answer, Tom. I think the Mortimer album was reissued by Collector's Choice so I could probably get it for cheap but after reading your comment, it won't be on the priority list. So many records to listen to...

I think we talked about it some already, the original is best for SQ if you prefer a more natural sound and like to crank it up, remaster if you like a more punchy modern sound, but the bonus tracks are pretty nice regardless, even a very good take on Love's "Willow Willow". Comparison of "Silver Machines" below, new vs old ...

Okay, just received the reissue Cardinal CD with the extra tracks. Can anyone answer this: Is "Big Mink" and "Big Mine" the same song? I see "Big Mine" listed on the track listing on some discographies (the Toy Bell EP) and "Big Mink" on others. If so, it's a pity that they didn't just complete the discography on this CD (unless the Toy Bell recordings are different versions. I have absolutely no idea.) This is small criticism, of course. The CD is fantastic, though Davey is quite right about the sound being a bit louder than the original CD. And the extras are incredible.

I've been very surprised at the less-than-enthusiastic responses I've received after pointing people toward this album. I've also used tracks here and there on comps I've made for others, all of which failed to generate any interest.

Whaddaya gonna do? I still say it's a fine album.

Just went to his myspace page. There's two songs up from an album called Tonight's Music. Doesn't look like it ever made it.

    I just looked here:

    http://www.myspace.com/cardinaltheband

There are three songs ("Her," "Catholic Smoke Ball" and "Love Like Rain") on the playlist.

Any idea what these songs are from?

I don't know those songs at all. I didn't even know Cardinal had a myspace page.

They are three new songs Davies and Matthews recorded before falling out again. From Matthews' website:

I just noticed that if you rollover the cover art for the three songs, it gives you a release date of "1/1/2017." Let's hope for sooner.

Hey, nice thread! Looks like it's almost the one year anniversary. Still love that record, and have a new found love of Davies' There's Never Been A Crowd Like This too, in fact I think it might've moved into my top spot. Just about perfect, most days. And has some of his best Bowie channeling on that one! Really nice sound on the vinyl too.

Listening to the Dodos Visiter from last year right now. Don't think I gave this one enough of a chance back a few months ago, cause it's some pretty fun and interestingly eclectic music. Kinda like what this thread was about, great pop sensibility, but not afraid to work without a net. Can tell this one is gonna keep spinning a lot. Maybe I'll make a new Dodos thread, since it looks like there is only two posts in the archive, and one is mine. But then again, unlike this Cardinal thread, most of my threads don't get any responses :)
