    Hi all,

The reason equalized LP Production safety copy tapes sound so bad on CD is that CD doesn't need any of the EQ to compensate for that medium. With LP production, you have to center the bass frequencies to avoid out of phase bass overloading the cutter head or causing impossible to track LP records. You also have to compress and limit to accommodate the average phono player. You also have to boost treble to make up for losses in record processing and plating. Record Mastering for the mass public is a fine art of compromise for the discs to sound good on a wide variety of playback equipment from cheap kiddie phonographs to 100,000.00 Esoteric Hi-Fi systems. :(
