Confusing, isn't it? We need more details. SACD or not?

I would like to hear all of the early ones too
for the next deluxe edition I hope they do the first one.
That would be cool to hear instrumental versions of NIB and Wicked World

For me the most exciting thing would be the possibility of a Sabotage deluxe edition having the (supposedly) completed but never released quad mix of the album. Being possibly the most densely layered of all of the early Sabbath albums, I think it would make an amazing 4.0 SACD!

Modern 5.1 remixes of all the early albums would be nice too, but I'll take what I can get.

It's gonna be the world's first three-sided SACD. What's confusing about that?

  8. 3 Sided SACD's eh? Now that's a first! Guess I will need a new player.:)

I have heard a conversion from CD-4 LP to DVD-Audio that is outstanding. The mix is very lively and it brings out elements that get a little buried in the stereo version.

It's going to be a standard hybrid, 2 layer SACD. Layer 1 will have the redbook of Paranoid, layer 2 will contain the SACD stereo and SACD 4 track audio programs.

So can anyone tell me why on earth they'd package the same mix on a redbook layer TWICE in a 3-disc set?

I mean really... why even bother making the SACD a hybrid?

Ah whatever... if it doesn't sound like hell, I'm gonna buy it anyway...

That's exactly what I thought before correcting my previous post.

Either the redbook layer is present twice in the package, or the site made a mistake

There's no need for CD1 if the redbook layer on the SACD is the original stereo mix.

Or CD1 and CD2 are the Deluxe Edition. The SACD is supposed to be 3 discs.

I'm wondering if the person who wrote it up at music wow misunderstood how hybrid SACDs are and that this will be a single release (not separate deluxe and sacd versions) made up of 2 discs physically...disc 1 hopefully is hybrid SACD with SACD stereo and SACD multichannel along with CD, and disc 2 with the alternate stuff is just CD.

Wow! Can't you guys read. The third disc is SACD. Tracks 9 through 16 are SACD stereo and tracks 17 through 24 are SACD surround.

Here's the press release. Find the word SACD, win a bunny:

Black Sabbath Paranoid Deluxe 3CD Set.
    Overview
Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Ozzy Osbourne – four names that resonate throughout Rock’s recorded history as clear and sublime as the haunting bell that tolls the opening to their eponymous debut album from 1970.

Collectively, they formed Black Sabbath and forged the most haunting and hypnotic rock sound of all time. From humble beginnings, the Birmingham quartet enslaved the minds and souls of millions of rock fans around the world and continue to do so into the new millennium. The musical genre they created inspired countless musicians and spawned countless bands, all of which have attempted to emulate the Heavy Metal originators. Few have come close to rival the uniquely powerful musical make-up of the all powerful Black Sabbath.

Now, for the first time-ever, the blueprint, or rather black-print, to Sabbath’s musical plan can be scrutinised via a myriad of previously unreleased studio outtakes, recently unearthed and compiled as additional bonus discs accompanying the band genre defining 1970 album Paranoid.

Paranoid is the second album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath. It was released in the United Kingdom during September 1970, and contains some of their most famous work, including the songs "Iron Man", "War Pigs" and the title track.
The album is regarded as a classic of the heavy metal genre and one of the most influental heavy metal albums. It has been certified 4 x Platinum, having sold over four million copies in the US alone, making it Black Sabbath's best-selling album.

The "Paranoid" single, released before the album, reached number four in the UK. Pushed by its success, the album hit number one in the UK, and is the only Black Sabbath album to have done so. The US release was held until January 1971, as the Black Sabbath album was still on the charts at the time of Paranoid's UK release. The album broke into the top ten in the US in March 1971, and would go on to sell four million copies in the US alone, with virtually no radio airplay.

Allmusic's Steve Huey, who cites Paranoid as "one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time", which "defined the sound and style of heavy metal more than any other record in rock history".

Paranoid is expanded to a triple-disc containing the extremely rare 1974 Quadrophonic mix of the album. The album also includes deluxe digipak gatefold packaging with expanded booklets containing rare and previously unseen photographs, comprehensive sleeve-notes telling the story behind each album and include images of rare single covers and memorabilia from the period.

Paranoid is the first release in a set of Black Sabbath deluxe expanded editions. Each remastered album includes an additional disc of previously unheard outtakes, demos and instrumental tracks taken from the original studio sessions

I think the question remains...why put a redbook cd and a SACD with a redbook layer (presumably with the same mastering) into one deluxe box? That is where the confusion is coming from, I suspect.

  25. I think we can all agree on one thing.....this is ONE POORLY WORDED release announcement!;)
