But you're talking digital, not vinyl right? Those may be mastered differently.

Digital, yes. Sorry, is this the vinyl thread?

The OP didn't specify format, but I've seen both vinyl and CD/SACD pressings mentioned in this thread.

I was alluding to the RL and CBS 1/2 speed masterings in the post, so discussing the vinyl was my intention. No problem.

Old post, but I'd just like to clarify that the old LP does indeed sound just like the SACD on that song. It has a weird flangey effect on the entire mix, and that's partially why the song was remixed for Greatest Hits in 1985 (it was also to re-record the sax solo with Phil Woods, but I think the old Richie Cannata sax solo is a billion times better).

Thanks George, I have an old US DIDP with the green levels I'm perfectly happy with. Now if you would of said Orange levels, I'd be on a hunt

I tend to agree but then again I still think it's the best digital version in spite of that.
I would rather the mastering be a bit dull than too forward sounding (as is the case with the Sony SACD).

I have the vinyl and love it. There's a couple better mofi Joel titles, and certainly not earth shattering, but like someone else mentioned, a clean cut that's not over compressed and warm.
