Has anyone found out any more info on these reissues? Specifically, whether or not Cold Spring Harbor and Turnstiles will be the originals?

I've heard there wasn't a whole lot of uninterrupted music in the Shea movie. Might be worth a Netflix stream, but i can't see paying money for it unless it came with a second 'performance only' disc.

Have you got a little bit lost? Go back out the way you came. Turn right, it should be signed Beatles. Can't miss it. Although apparently you did ;)

I got a $10 gift certificate for Target as a christmas gift.

Ended up wandering over to the CD section and purchased
    a collection called

"The Essential Billy Joel - 2.0"

It's a three disc collection. Cost me $5 on top of the gift
    card (approx $15 total).

The third disc was kind of short - but it seemed like it was
added specifically to pick up some tunes that weren't
    available elsewhere.

I own all of his LPs but this seemed a nice easy way to get
a healthy amount of his music on CD (and easier to put into
    my Ipod).

I sat down and compared this collection with others
and I concluded I got a pretty good deal. My only real
complaint is the song "The Stranger" is missing - and it might
have been useful to get "You're Only Human" - if only because
I never bought the original collection it was exclusive to back
    in the mid 80s.

But that's not a real favorite song of mine anyway.

If I combined this with the entirety of "Songs In the Attic",
I'd pretty much have everything I care about.

Nothing from the Russian tour album ever seems to show up
on any collections. I remember "Back In the USSR" getting
a lot of airplay at the time. Not sure if it was a single or
the local radio stations just played it.

Has Billy Joel ever been asked what he thinks about that scene
in the Will Ferrell movie (Stepbrothers?) where the Billy Joel
cover band gets kind of agitated that the audience doesnt
respect that they are an "eighties Billy Joel cover band" ???

I think that moment is hilarious. "Hey - we're not a seventies
Billy Joel band. Eighties only please !"

It just seems so funny to have a cover band dividing up his
catalog - and choosing the later era...

  6. I would rank Billy Joel as one of my all tikme favourite artists, possibly my #1 favourite. I am in the middle of getting first CD pressings of all of his albums.

Today I recieved "The Stranger" 35DP 2 (101A5) and it sounds phenomenal! I have a sealed 1978 US LP pressing that I may open one day when we get our record player fixed. Offhand, the only thing that will make me buy this album again will be if Audio Fidelity release a 24k edition mastered by Steve.

So this may be a threadcrap but I have to say that at this point in time I have absolutely no interest in remasters of Billy Joel's albums unless they are either flat transfers or mastered with the same care and attention that Mr. Hoffman masters with. I look forward to reading people's reviews of the 2011 CD's here.

A flat transfer is not necessarily going to sound great. That's why there are mastering engineers.

Is anybody else going crazy waiting for Legacy to announce more details and a release date for the forthcoming expanded reissues and box set?

I bet most of you clicked on this hoping I came across some new information.

Nope, I ain't got nothing for 'ya! :D

I did find a remastered version of the original NYSOM...

Maybe, they are trying to spread out the releases, being that they just put out "Shea Stadium".

(OT - And, why hasn't Larry Yelen given us any update on the Eric Clapton "Visual Anthology" in over a year?)

    What the heezy?

    I did :)

This would also explain why I couldn't hear any difference on the sax solos of Say Goodbye to Hollywood. :shh:

So, I get an email from Legacy Recordings today listing upcoming releases for the next few months with no mention of Billy Joel.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

But, aren't we supposed to look to his music as the best way to learn about his past?
