Wow, I had every one of these in heavy rotation in 1979.

I still think it's, Breakfast in America, but Bad Girls is very solid for a double album, and I've come to appreciate the entire, Spirits Having Flown, too.

Zep for me. My favorite Zeppelin album and I am listening to it now. Achilles Last Stand and Tea For One are fantastic. I like the rest too.

But aren't those songs from Led Zep's other underloved #1 album, Presence?

1979 is one of my favourite year for rock. The year was so good, that even the #1's, most "commercial" stuff was highly listenable, as this poll shows.

100% agreed. The #1 albums of '79 aren't even my favorites of the year - but definitely very listenable.

There was one #1 album of '79 which I did not put into this poll because it is a greatest hits compilation, which was Barbra Streisand's Greatest Hits Volume Two.

I only included the actual studio albums of '79 which hit #1.

1-2-3, I have to go with Supertramp, Billy Joel, and Led Zeppelin. So, I voted for Supertramp.

I finally put my vote in. I had to go with Donna Summer's "Bad Girls". I'm not a huge fan of disco - but Summer really put together one hot album here. Her form of disco was more a disco meets rock type sound with heavy guitar and strong dance beat.

    A+ all the way.

I pretty much figured "Breakfast In America" was going to top this list. The album was such a huge hit in '79 and was really a big part of high school and college age culture at the time. I was 19 in '79 and I remember playing "Breakfast In America" on a daily basis for months on end. My favorite track then was "Take The Long Way Home". Now, I'd say my favorite track has to be "Breakfast In America" - but really they're all excllent tracks.

If I were to list them from favorite to least it would be as follows:

    1. Donna Summer - Bad Girls
    2. Supertramp - Breakfast In America
    3. Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door
    4. Eagles - The Long Run
    5. The Knack - Get The Knack
    6. Billy Joel - 52nd Street
    7. Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute
    8. Blues Brothers - Briefcase Full Of Blues
    9. Bee Gees - Spirits Having Flown
    10. Rod Stewart - Blondes Have More Fun

Went with 52nd Street just barely over Breakfast in America. More sentimental attachments to that record I guess.

Is it shameful that I had to google each album to see the track list, then search youtube and such, to hear the songs hat weren't a big hit single?

Nothing that strikes me as a good solid complete album, unfortunately, and I don't want to vote falsely by one or two singles on the entire album. If I was pushed real, hard I'd probably go Supertramp, but I am not really a fan of it. Now if this included 'The Wall', it would have been a seconds thought!

I graduated from HS in '79, and, looking at this lost, I realize why music seemed so awful then. I wouldn't play any of those records without a gun to my head.

I voted for BAD GIRLS. I actually like BREAKFAST more (now), but my father played the living hell out of Bad Girls back in 1979 when I was only 11 years old, and that album (along with many other disco-related records) introduced me to a broader realm of music.

Yes, I could play KISS - DETROYER then move straight into ANITA WARD with no trouble.

In Through the Out Door, but 1979 was not my year for MOR - I was 18 and went for The New Wave.

I didn't own any of those albums back in the day.

    I own these on CD:
    Supertramp - Breakfast In America
Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door
The Knack - Get The Knack
    Billy Joel - 52nd Street

The Knack's Get The Knack gets my vote.
