  1. Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door gets my vote.

But Supertramp - Breakfast In America is a pretty close second, at least compared to the rest of the pack. After the first two, they are in no particular order.

    Level I:
Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door

    Level Ia:
    Supertramp - Breakfast In America

    Level IIa:
Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute
    Eagles - The Long Run

    Level IIIa:
    Billy Joel - 52nd Street
Blues Brothers - Breifcase Full of Blues
Rod Stewart - Blondes Have More Fun
    Donna Summer - Bad Girls
The Knack - Get The Knack
Bee Gees - Spirits Having Flown

Not a perfect album, but Doobie Brothers - 'Minute By Minute' gets my vote.

    2. Billy Joel - '52nd Street'
    3. Donna Summer - 'Bad Girls'
    4. Bee Gees - 'Spirits Having Flown'

1979. Don't forget "Bomber" and "Overkill" by Motorhead!

No, not #1's, but classics nonetheless.

I picked Led Zep, listened to that one a lot that year.

In second place is definitely Supertramp.

It's been over 30 years and I'm still sad I have to live in a world where FEAR OF MUSIC, LONDON CALLING, RUST NEVER SLEEPS and INTO THE MUSIC aren't #1 albums :righton:

But, from that list, I'll go with BREAKFAST. After that BAD GIRLS. The rest I try not to think about :sigh:

I can still listen to Supertramp occasionally (that guys voice can be damn irritating, though) so I voted it for it.

I could have voted for "Bad Girls," but I only know that song, not the whole album.

Just the single song "Bad Girls" is better than most of these albums.

The Knack is ok, Iguess. Billy Joel is horrible.

The Led Zep and Eagles records are the sounds of dinosaur bands in their death throes - just abysmal.

    Rod.....the less said, the better.

A poor, poor list from what was otherwise a really good year.

The Long Run just barely over Breakfast In America.

I was ready to check off "off the wall", then I was startled to see it was not there...so I chose "bad girls"

I instinctively voted for Billy Joel because of we are in the middle of the anti-Joel era (a.k.a it's not cool to like him).

However, I forgot that this might be his weakest LP during his run from Cold Spring through Innocent Man.

Led Zeppelin might have been on their way out, but In Through The Out Door is still awesome.

Breakfast in America is a monster.

Long Run is pretty sick too.

    Top 3 with Joel #4.

    So my vote lied.

I own all the albums listed except for "Bad Girls" and I even owned that at one time as well. Gotta go with The Knack here, they came totally out of left field and power pop wasnt exactly buring up the charts at that time. Plus, I have fond memories of that album during that summer and giot to meet Doug Fieger a couple of times years later.

I was in 4th grade in 1979 and Supertramp's 'Breakfast In America' was the soundtrack of my life. I think this is the only album I've owned in almost every format then and now.

    1) 45 single for 'The Logical Song'
    2) LP
    3) 8 Track Tape
    4) cassette
    5) CD

I so agree. Though I somewhat liked it when it first came out, it's only recently that I've recognized its brilliance.

I'm surprised at all the love for ITTOD - this was IMHO the weakest Zep album by a long shot that only got to number 1 due to band's name and doesn't stand a chance against records by acts at the top of their game. So does The Long Run btw.
