    "The Wall" wasn't Number 1?

Not until 1980. It was released November 30th, 1979. Late.

I forgot that The Wall never hit number one in 1979. Anyway, out of the albums on the list, Supertramp is the winner without question. That's not saying a whole lot, however, IMO.

Went with Eagles, but not enthusiastically.

There's not a single BAD album on that list, but there's not a single one I really like, either...

I like a lot of these albums, but only Bad Girls and Breakfast In America please me all the way through. Breakfast has more high points and is thus the winner, but Bad Girls and Donna Summer deserve kudoes for keeping it up for a double album.

Were all of LZ's studio albums #1 then? That's probably their weakest, or if not, a close second to Presence.

Only heard that and Breakfast in America, so it would be unfair to vote, although BiA is clearly the better of the two.

Of course, if London Calling was an option, it would blow away all the others.

I agree. Why'd they even put out an album?

Columbia House even featured it as Selection of the Month. At least I'm pretty sure about that because usually only the selection of the month came out in their lousy slow-speed reel to reel format.

Strangely, I've only ever owned one of these: Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door. 1979 was a better year for singles.

Well I did start a thread last year claiming 1979 was a huge down year in the 70's and I got crucified for it.

Back then. I had it on the Columbia House reel.

    This one?

Glad to see 154 got one mention at least, that's one of the most overlooked masterpieces of the late 70s...

That's because many of us think 1979 was a great year - just because the #1s weren't super-awesome doesn't mean the year was awful as a whole. We had good/great albums like:

    "Armed Forces" - Elvis Costello
    "Look Sharp!" - Joe Jackson
    "George Harrison"
    "At Budokan" - Cheap Trick
    "Cool for Cats" - Squeeze
    "Van Halen II"
    "Lodger" - Bowie
"Back to the Egg" - Wings
"Labour of Lust" - Nick Lowe
    "Candy-O" - Cars
    "Communique" - Dire Straits
    "Low Budget" - Kinks
"Fear of Music" - Talking Heads
    "Off the Wall" - MJ
    "Dream Police" - Cheap Trick
"I'm the Man" - Joe Jackson
    "Regatta De Blanc" - Police
"Damn the Torpedos" - Tom Petty
    "Prince"
    "Tusk" - Fleetwood Mac
"Eat to the Beat" - Blondie
    "Setting Sons" - the Jam
    "The Wall" - Pink Floyd

And saving the best for last:

    "London Calling" - the Clash

Those are just my choices for good/great stuff - others will submit additional albums, and I'm leaving off the albums already cited in this poll.

Man, if 1979 was a terrible year, I'd love to have more terrible years!

As do I. Tons of great albums that year!

I just said it wasn't up to snuff of the years preceding it.

I didn't re-read the old thread - it's been three years since it ran, so I don't remember its full contents. Sorry if I misremembered your intentions with that thread, but your comment here that 1979 was "a huge down year" made me think you felt it was a crappy year...

Let's face it, the best records rarely get to No.1 on any sales charts.

The Wall was #1 in 1980 the was released on November 30, 1979 and hit #1 on January 19, 1980 and stayed there for 15 weeks.

"Damn The Torpedos" fantastic album that it was reached #2, it just missed the top spot.

but, you have to admit several of these albums are actually pretty good. Breakfast In America, The Long Run, Bad Girls, In Through The Out Door are all very solid albums.
