There was, and like most VJ albums (by anybody!) there were many more mono than stereo copies made. I owned a mono copy as a very young child. I wish I still had it. The stereo is insanely rare.
Yep, I’ve had at least 40 copies of the mono version over the years, and only 2 stereo copies (one resides in my personal collection). The mono issue is one of those albums that was worth more 30 years ago; ebay showed just how plentiful genuine mono copies are, and it’s pretty easy to getba decent one for $20-30 these days. Stereo keeps going up, as more people have realized how rare they, and how great they sound.
Songs Pictures and Stories of the Fabulous Beatles 1964 Vee Jay Records is pretty rare (the ones with the 3/4 flip cover). Just located mine (purchased shortly after it was released)... Stereo
My Dad had one since 1964, and gave it to me some years back. Sadly, it has been very well-used in the intervening 60 years [particularly by me and my brother when we were much younger]...
One of my seventies acquisitions. Upon finding it, I knew I was in for a treat having heard about the extended ending in AILH. Also, listen to the EQ mastering on Deine Hand. I don’t know what they did but it blows the awful panned stereo version on the Capitol album out of the ocean.
What do you mean, "panned stereo version"? The extended ending to And I Love Her was faked. Why remains a mystery.
I was referring to Komm Gib etc. on the Capitol Something New; the dubbed German vocals are extreme right while the backing track is extreme left. Sounds terrible. It sounds quite different on the German SN.
Right; all I’m saying is that on the German stereo SN it has a much fuller, more cohesive sound and the vocals and backing track aren’t nearly as “divided”. Stereo versions of the English sung Hand don’t have this extreme separation either.
The English version was mixed from 4-track. The German version, while it uses the backing originally recorded on 4-track, was only done to twin-track, just like most of Please Please Me and With The Beatles, and thus features similar separation. (A remix could sync up the German vocals with the 4-track backing, but that wasn't possible at the time.)
But you do hear the difference between the German Odeon version and the Capitol version (?) I hadn’t played my Odeon copy in quite a while and when Komm came on I was very taken aback (in a good way).
I haven't heard the Odeon version. But all they could have done was manipulate the twin-track. It's not as if they could have gotten a different mix or something.
I definitely concur in that. I wish I had the means of sending it to you. The second it begins you can hear the difference. It almost makes me “not hate” the song sung in German. I’m wondering if it’s simply fake stereo giving it a much fuller sound than the ridiculous Capitol stereo version.
I always loved that cover, too. I've seen it getting a lot of votes in some of the "Worst Beatles Albums Covers" threads. When I get in home tonight I'm gonna hold her tight I'm gonna love her till the cows come home!
Do you actually own a copy of the German Something New LP? Oh never mind you don't. So how do you know what it sounds like?
Well, to anyone who saw the first Sullivan appearance that cover is a classic. When I was a kid I was mesmerized by it, as well as Meet The Beatles.
And I think the exact opposite. Diff'rent strokes, for diff'rent folks And so on and so on And scooby dooby dodby
