About 15 years ago, Paul McCartney was scheduled to come play the Brisbane football stadium, but the city council upheld concerns that the Paul crowd might be more undesirable to the local neighborhood than the usual drunk football hooligans. Mayor at the time Jim Soorley, a baby-boomer himself and huge Beatle fan, was mortified when the gig was canceled from the itinerary because an agreement could not be reached.

How long ago was this ? 1950s ? Can find no date on that thing itself ....

And New Orleans ?? I thought this has always been a more liberal community ?

I'm only guessing we're talking the 50's, but could be earlier. While the New Orleans jazz sound is world renowned, I suspect the radio/white kid reference is early R&R or R&B.
I think I pulled it from a Rolling Stone article years back and tucked it away as a juxtaposition in an early Elvis disc.

Yeah, a little R&B can be "dangerous". I don't see how that would apply to Jethro Tull though.

I can tell you exactly when. That notice was distributed as a flyer at a rally of 8000 people on March 20, 1956 in the New Orleans Municipal Auditorum.

The "Citizens Council of Greater New Orleans" was specifically formed to oppose integration in the South.

You can read more in Rick Coleman's book Blue Monday, especially pages 117 and 118.

It has a zip code on it, so it's no earlier than 1963 - unless zip codes started to be used in some parts of the country earlier than others...

That must be a later reprint (which means this thing was circulating for at least 7 years). I have seen an earlier version which has a street address, not a PO Box number. There were Zip Codes for large cities before 1963, but they were not 5 digit codes, so you are correct.

Unfortunately the only copy I have is quite small, but you'll be able to see that the address is different:

Today? Xtina hasn't done that for a long time. She's pretty clean now.

Sex in music is nothing new. Sex is nothing new.

    Isn't Mick singing "high-class game"?

Stones version here. Original Valentinos version (which also sounds to me like "high-class") here.

I think the part about pornography being more and more desensitized is pretty accurate, but I guess you can say that about almost anything. It seems to me like we are sliding into a society where anything goes and nothing is shocking. I know, I'm getting old (old fart) and this kind of stuff only bothers the old, but that's how I feel. The old school music was suggestive and sex has been around forever, but nothing like it has been the last 10 years. Just my opinion.

Wow! I guess it's "high-classed" games. Never heard it that way before.

Probably because it makes absolutely no sense. What the hell is a "high classed" game?

Maybe Bobby Womack was "doing" a "Day Tripper" (i.e. - "she's a big teaser" for "she's a prick teaser")?

An "art punk" group from Vancouver called The Braineaters did a recreation of this poster, replacing the word "negro" with "Braineater"

Removed from the immediate context of Lennon's famous Jesus remarks, that can seem like one weird sign to be carrying at a Beatles bonfire.

If I had set fire to every "dull and ordinary" musical act of my youth, I'd have had black lung by the time I was 16.
