I've been thinking about making a pair of speakers. It would be nice to have a pair of good box speakers as a change of pace with the LRS.
Well I have the LRS not the plus but I don't know. The plus is supposed to have more in the treble. Maybe they hadn't broken in. They take a while. Maybe your amp wasn't large enough. I'm using two at 400 w each. Maybe you didn't supplement with a subwoofer. Maybe I have low standards and don't know any better. Maybe, and this is the actual reason, measurements aren't really worth much. To me box speakers always sound like boxes. They never disappear like the LRS's do. That kind of thing like soundstage size and presence is not measured. And of course we are all different. Don't feel bad that you don't like poor measuring speakers. I'm kidding. And I'm not the only one who likes the LRS, do a search on Yahoo and many glowing reviews pop up. Many have been sold. Especially considering their cost they are a great value. And when I got the LRS I only paid $700. The two subs cost more. Here's just one review. Magnepan LRS+ Review - The Absolute Sound All that being said, I would like to try a really good pair of box speakers in my system. Something that does what the Maggies don't.
I'm starting to develop a rash whenever I see the letters A and N popping up alongside eachother... could be the breast milk too ...
Indeed...should we get back on track with actual Axpona attendees commenting on actual gear they heard and what they did/did not like about the experience? As an Audio Note owner, I regret that the baby gets thrown out with the bath water. No attempt to sway anyone in any direction is typically welcome, regardless of brand...I believe in supporting the ethos of "buy and listen to what floats your boat". No one is right and no one is wrong, unless someone else is trying to convince another of what they should buy and like. Peace.
Sorry if I derailed things but Steve's mention of his friend's milk preference really threw things off. Soured the whole topic. But maybe it was milked for all that it was worth. Let's get serious now and back on topic, dammit. What was it again?
back on track i am thinking about investigating the new goldenear T66 active bass towers. the red ones look very cool and really sounded good. completely redone crossovers since quest group bought GE. i like the foam surround on the tweeter to reduce reflections.
The idea of active built in adjustable bass and sub bass perfectly integrated with the speaker is very appealing.
I don’t remember but did you see those at Axpona? Yeah man. That’s what I keep saying and edge on be tiring for new tech.
Peter Breuninger actually switched over to Cube Audio Nenuphars soon afterwards. I think you can still see some AN amps in the background. Quick honeymoon and then moved on.
Ok dude really you know how much I respect and like you but chill. Richard posted a giant list of speakers he likes not just AN so at this point you're picking a fight to pick a fight. I know you're better than that Ingenieur.
Lol, not a fight, but questioning opinions stated as absolute fact. Over and over. As if all other choices are second rate. It is tedious. We know AN is his be all/end all. But this thread is not about AN, iirc the OP tried them at home and removed them very quickly? Might be mistaken. Don't sweat it, I'm fairly thick skinned.
yes, i like them except for a bit of growly bass which could have been in the recording. for the past several axponas goldenear has had some of the best sounding bass bar none including other systems with subwoofers.
Heard the cubes last year and thought they sounded horrid- overly dynamic and jumpy, disjointed and glaring.
