Not on the site per se, but there are outside websites that track Amazon's pricing movements. They often flash these type of deals using automated search programs of the entire Amazon catalog. Here is an advanced search program where you can input a wide variety of pricing parameters to look for bargains.

My Boz Scaggs LP arrived safely in an oversized box with air bubbles filling the rest of the space which is better than some of the crappy packaging methods that others here have posted about with the box being too small.

 

The truth is: There are a few modest tricks that help suggest where to look, but mostly it's sifting through a lot of listings looking for something significant.

I would call it more like good old fashioned modern day bin browsing.

 

By total contrast, Fed Ex just delivered my Cisco Aja, & Speakers Corner The Captain And Me from Acoustic Sounds...hard, sturdy packaging that " folded over " twice, and taped with that movers tape that is reinforced with nylon.
Difference of shipping is like night and day.

 

I got my record brush Friday but not the records that shipped the same day. I hope they arrive unscathed. I ordered records from Best Buy once and they were all seam split.

Just to follow-up...I got MY replacement for the John Hiatt LP yesterday, tossed in the bottom of a box with air pillows on top. No other protection, but except for a couple tears in the shrink, it looks OK, as they apparently found a box that was at least big enough to fit the LP measurement without bending it. I'll live with it.

But they must have only had one box that size, as a second box that came the same day with a Van Morrison LP (purchased to get my total to $25) was, yet again, smashed in a box that was too small. The irony was not lost on this end. If I keep my expectations low the disappointment is not as intense, hahaha...returning with packaging feedback left, I know the drill by now.

The thing is, the folks who are packaging this stuff HAVE to actually be smashing these LP's into the box. I can't see how else the albums would have enough force to be bent in transit the way they are, without the box appearing crushed as well. (The shipping cartons are untouched and intact, it's just the inside contents that are damaged.)

Still have more stuff to come, stay tuned.

 

I order quite a few LP's from Amazon .ca and they pack their stuff pretty good and use LP mailers.

I just ordered 17 lp's from Amazon .com and they spilt the order in two with 14 in one and 3 in another! hmmmm! Could be scary!
Will report back once they arrive.

 

Not even remotely a secret... use Amazon's listings, arrange from cheapest price to highest price and start scrolling.

 

I ordered a bunch of stuff -- mainly electronic dance records -- and while the packing was lame as usual and there were a few bent corners, there were a couple of records (all imports, so they aren't in shrinkwrap) that were just TRASHED and I don't think it happened in the shipping. I mean, MASSIVE shelfwear, spines that are just rubbed to hell -- they look like used records from the outside (and not used records in very good condition, I might add).

On the one hand, I don't REALLY care about covers on dance music so much as I do on rock/pop etc LPs because most sleeves are generic anyway, and these records were REALLLLLLLY cheap. On the other hand, Amazon passing off records like this as "New" is sort of insulting.

I might take a pic or two to post to see what you guys think. There are a couple of really trashed covers in there, and it had nothing to do with the shipping.

I ordered this just to get the CD. Maybe I can sell the vinyl if it's in good shape.

 

Just got a box of 6 LP's today. Thankfully, the box was about 12 inches wide. The records were placed in the bottom of the box and the other 6 inches of height was filled with pillow pads, enough to hold them snug to the bottom of the box. No damage in this shipment...phew!!!. Waiting on the next one.

The John Hiatt LP was the real deal. Pressed at RTI and mastered by Kevin Gray at Acoustech. I have several other New West titles and all sound excellent. New West Records does a great job with vinyl. Highly recommended.

 

Just note that the CD is ONLY the CD in an envelope. You don't get the jewel box or the jewel box inserts.

 

This was exactly the way mine were packaged. They arrived in perfect condition with no seam splits or bent corners.

That John Hiatt record is nice with quiet surfaces.
