The album that came out a few years ago (Devil's Playground - 2005 on Sanctuary) was actually kind of interesting and had some decent songs/riffs on it.

Could you put as bonus tracks the following:
    Dancing with myself
    Mony Mony
    White Wedding
    Hot in the City
    Cradle of Love

Those bonus tracks don't fit the album even if AF were able to include them. Perhaps, if this one does well, AF may do the first album and you will get some of the tracks you requested. Anyway, thanks Steve and others for Rebel Yell. It's interesting how somebody called the Capitol remaster bright. I found it dull and muddy.

Sad because Generation X was soooo much better. This album was worthy but it was Gen X without the brains (Tony James). Billy Idol under Bill Aucoin's direction started becoming self-parody, sexist, and the songs weren't as good.

"Dancing With Myself" was really a great pop song -- that dub bass, funny masturbation metaphor -- that stuff was all Tony James. Funny that it was that tune, and the Gen X version (but wimpier, they mixed Steve Jones' power chords out), that really launched Idol in the U.S., released prior to this album. When Idol moved to New York he was told to leave Tony James and (newer) Gen. X guitarist James Stevenson back in London. Too bad. Aucoin didn't like Tony. And that was that.

My guess is this will be out in August.

First GFR finally arrives and now this.

Looks like things are starting to flow again from EMI :)

This is going to be great!

  12. I have a minty original issue vinyl copy, and it sounds fantastic, which would lead me to think that Steve has a really great sounding record to work from (not always the case, right?).

Funy. My opinion is exactly the opposite. Gen X is okay. But I think Billy was wise to break away. Steve Stevens was a great addition to his sound.

Agree with that 100%. I really like Generation/Gen X. Most people in the UK view Billy's subsequent solo career and 'image' as a bit of a joke tbh.

    Thanks for keeping us informed!

Rebel Yell is still one of those unforgettable 80s songs.

They don't fit the album, but that would complete everything I need of Billy Idol

I never actually bought a CD of this one before, so this will be the first time I have purchased it since when the LP was new. Billy Idol and the Violent Femmes were pretty much the soundtrack of every bus trip I took with my high school cross country team.:)

Hey-new masterings of 'Blue Highway' and 'Catch My Fall'! Can't wait. Guess I'm the only one who doesn't get the reference to the girls and beach balls though.

I don't get it either. Were those on the inner jacket of the original LP? Never had this one on vinyl.

    Steve,

I'm definitely very excited for this one. I know it's been a long wait for those involved.

Any chance for these or other similar bonus tracks:

Rebel Yell (Session Take) - from the 1999 Rebel Yell "Remaster"
Motorbikin' (Session Take) - from the 1999 Rebel Yell "Remaster"
Catch My Fall (Original Demo) - from the 1999 Rebel Yell "Remaster"
Flesh For Fantasy (Session Take) - from the 1999 Rebel Yell "Remaster"
Blue Highway (Original Demo) - from the 1999 Rebel Yell "Remaster"
