I am guessing all these are digital, using the 48/24 Marino masters from 2001 or whenever they were

Seems odd to only do a handful

For starters, where’s Let There Be Rock?

Easily the second best they ever made :(

I just received an e-mail from Columbia Records that there entire AC/DC catalog will be pressed on gold vinyl. The first 9 will be released March 15 2024. You can pre-order them now.

I got the e-mail too, but I only see exclusives for Back in Black and Highway to Hell, and they aren't gold. Do you see them anywhere?

Ugh, more color gimmick instead of focusing on good mastering. What they really need to do is reissue the first 3 AU AC/DC albums.

Gold looks to be exclusive to Walmart in the US (at least for the moment).

  12. The fact they haven't reissued the original Australian albums during the "vinyl revival" is a bit surprising. IMO it's the only way to hear early AC/DC and I count myself quite lucky to have acquired original pressings before the prices went into the stratosphere.

This is the first wave of releases, there's more to come. No information on the source(s) used, the mastering, who cut them and where they are pressed.

Safe to say if it was anything to be excited about, we'd already know that.

They’ll be the same as the last time they all got remastered/reissued

We can hope for better quality vinyl, at least.

The mastering and cutting are actually not terrible...but the 2003 reissues are pretty damn crackly. Like a bowl of rice krispies, every damn one of them.

I didn't have any problem with vinyl quality, it was just obvious that they were digital sourced. And not particularly good. You put one of those Marinos on, then compare it to an original and it's obvious. George Marino was just lazy, he did not do a proper job.
Except Highway to Hell. Which sounds great. Apparently that one was all analogue. Apparently. Whatever, it sounds like a completely different mix to the UK Townhouse original.

Would be great if someone did a proper all analogue reissue of the AC/DC catalogue. I'd pay whatever it costs for the albums up to Back in Black done AAA at 45 rpm.
With the proviso that the tapes are still more or less ok.... Some of them must be turning to slush by now, it's almost 50 years.

For what it's worth, best sounding version of Back in Black, the Monarch press original RL.

The original US issue Back in Black sounds very good, and there are zillions of copies out there. Very unlikely these sound better--although the colored vinyl looks real cool.

They need to reissue all the correct Aussie albums on cd... with good mastering.
So many contentions with the Acdc catalog (frown)

Love AC/DC. Hate the most recent configs and mastering.

It's time to play history right and pull out the Jensen remasters and have CB cut them, as-is, as Australian albums. Do the singles with the B Sides, then release a 3LP package like Past Masters, RSD splatters....

Otherwise, you can keep it. There's a reason Albert Productions Lps go for huge cash.
