The duet with Neko Case, I Don't Need You Anymore, from the new album released last week, Who Will You Believe = very lovely harmonies; beautiful. Edit: Forgot to leave this to make it easier for any who are interested in sampling the album &/or purchasing - Who Will You Believe, by Pernice Brothers << Embedded Bandcamp hyperlink.
What I actually came here to post this evening is: Cassandra Wilson - Shelter From The Storm Album: Belly Of The Sun Cassandra does so many excellent interpretations on this album, it's tough to choose which selection to go with - & there are a couple of very fine original compositions, as well. A sublimely captivating, soul-stirring listening experience.
Don McLean -Vincent. Those lines about his fate….every f**king time. After my mum died, I couldn’t listen to Joni’s ‘River’. She died in the run up to Xmas.
“Thrice All American” — Neko Case (2000) Yes, she’s only singing about her hometown, but it could be almost anyone’s hometown in 21st century America. Case’s clear, gorgeous voice somehow holds and then releases longing, sadness, nostalgia, and pride all at once. It gets me every time.
I was listening to The Zombies' 'Odessey and Oracle' the other night and got choked up in quick succession listening to "This Will Be Our Year" and then "The Butcher's Tale," but for totally different reasons. "This Will Be Our Year" was the on-topic one.
