    ok my faves so far:

black mountain- in the future (stoner rock that's just a touch ambient)
sian alice group - 59:59 (part ambient, part jazz, part rock)
malkmus and the jicks- real emotional trash
shelby lynne- just a little lovin'
hammock- maybe they will sing for us tomorrow (guitar ambient)
explorers club-freedom wind (beach boys homage, incredible harmonies)
m83 - saturdays = youth (OMD meets a french ambient sound)
retribution gospel choir- s/t (guy from Low rocks out, great drums)
the ruby suns- sea lion (kind of psychedelic pop)
    she &him- vol1

The best record this year, in my opinion, is probably still Times New Viking. Fleet Foxes is right up there though.

What this band should do is drive up to Chicago and record with Steve Albini. The extreme lo-fi-ness of their sound is a problem. Do they want to reach more listeners? With Albini, they will still be able to maintain the crunch and rawness. Mind you, I haven't heard their latest album yet so that album could be totally different and my comments a waste of space.
