Forgive me if this is a rerun of something already covered...

While you're hunting for that Tom Port-approved pressing, who knows what else might be lurking in the runout?

I found the following on the 1980 Eagles Live LP:

Side One: "Is it illegal to yell "movie" in a firehouse?"

Side Two: "Hello Federal?.... Ship it!"

    Side Three: "Not tonight, thanks..."

Side Four: "I've gotta rest up for my monster."

    What else have you found?

I remember something interesting on the Powerslave LP. I think I sold it, though.

The album Emitt Rhodes has a rather elaborate ribbon scroll with the words RECORDED AT HOME in it on side one.

Those Eagles inscriptions are no doubt the work of Joe Walsh, who inscribed various silly ditties in the inner grooves of most of his LPs, at least up through But Seriously, Folks. Don't have time tonight, but I'll drag 'em out tomorrow morning & list them for you. I have multiple pressings of several, and I've always been curious if they all say the same thing. Now's a good time to find out;)

Speaking of Joe Walsh, does anyone remember the runout grooves on that first James Gang album?
Side 1 repeats "Turn Me Over" until the stylus is lifted, and
side 2 repeats "Play Me Again" until the stylus is lifted.
Neat-o! (Okay, remember that it was over 30 years ago, when neat-o was much simpler than today! :) )

It was a Doors lp steve. Maybe Waiting for the Sun. You said something like you and Kevin "got out alive" in reference (I assume) to the song "Five to one."

    Sam,

Did you just know that, or did you go through all of the DCC LP's?

OK, the results of my exhaustive:D Joe Walsh LP examination-includes LPs he co-produced, etc:

    BARNSTORM
side 2: "If they only knew how hard we work JW '72" only found on some pressings (2 with, 2 w/o)

    SMOKER:
    side 2: "Y-because we like you" (again 2 with, 2 w/o)

    SO WHAT
side 2: "That's no banany, that's my noze"

    BEST OF
side 1: "What can you do for a dog with no legs?"
side 2: "Take him for a drag"

    BUT SERIOUSLY, FOLKS
side 1: "Luncheon counter of the Deli Kind"
side 2: "call it in the air"

    THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD
side 1: "After 15 years, I still can't spell Szymzyck"
side 2: "Is it one "L" or two?"

    "YOU BOUGHT IT..."
    side 1: "Welcome Lucy"
side 2: "Are we done yet?"

nothing his Confessor/Got any Gum LPs

    EAGLES: LONG RUN
side 1: "Never let your monster lay down"
side 2: "From the Polack who sailed north"

    JOE VITALE: PLANTATION HARBOR
side 1: "We'll be there in 10 minutes, get 9 hours sleep"
side 2: "Hey Joe, what happened?"

    JAY FERGUSON: THUNDER ISLAND
side 1: "What it is is Isteggae"
side 2: "Two bands, no waiting"

Didin't see anything on my James Gang LPs, but they aren't originals. Joe's early MCA repressings didn't have the inscribing the ABC pressings had, so I don't know if there ever were any-

I remember one of the Go-Go's 45s had, "What we don't know, we make up" written on it.

Similarly, on the LP of Lindsay Buckingham's Go Insane, side 2 (I think) the song ends in a loop until you pick up the needle.

Another recorded "secret message": on the Rolling Stones Satanic Majesties album, there's some (seemingly) white noise feedback after the last song on side 2. If you play the LP at 45 RPM, you discover it's really "We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year." (A holiday greeting from Bill Wyman, from what I've read.) Sadly, this little extra is completely lost on those who only own the CD.

I was wondering the other day about this after listening to the CD: Has anyone here who's made Christmas compilation tapes/CDR's used this track either in the original version or 45 RPM versions?

Not sure if anyone else knows about this one, but the 1st string of pressings for ZZ TOP's "Eliminator" has a very quiet but very distinct phrase in the inner locking groove of Side X2.

Those of you with this LP and a manual TT will hear:

    "Oh, Mercy!....... thump.......Oh, Mercy!...........thump.......Oh, Mercy!"

Try it! I know my pressing's early, because they remixed "Legs" later on for cassette and CD and then changed the second side. Not SURE if they kept in the locking inner groove with the "message".

Here are some more I can recall:

Pink Floyd 'Atom Heart Mother': side 2: a drip from tap

Jeff Lynne 'Armchair Theatre': Side 2: a bell

Moody Blues "Threashold...: Side 2: a wooshing sound (I think)

Yep, close! Mellotron groan, overdubbed a couple of times for an airy "aaaaaahhhh!" effect. I call it "the sound of a large fog bank". Brilliant. That album deserves more praise than it gets. Sounds fairly mind-blowing in Quad 4==> DTS.

...and bringinging this back to Joe Walsh, the original lp of James Gang's Yer Album had these messages in the locking grooves:

side 1: turn me over...turn me over...turn me over...

side 2: play me again...play me again...play me again...

Is your Bluesway issue a Capitol pressed issue? I've heard of this phenom, but none of the issues I've grabbed (Capitol pressed) do that on Yer Album.

And I do love that record.

One thing I thought was cool with vinyl is once in a while running into a record with little messages stamped into the runout groove area. The first one that made me take notice of this years ago was The Clash "Radio Clash" EP with "Please save us..." on one side and "...not the whale" on the other. I subsequently scrambled through my vinyl to find others (I don't have that much vinyl).
    From what I can remember I found;
A: "Nice to see your face..." B: "...In the place" J. Geils Band "Bloodshot"
A: "I want to live like James Bond" B: "I want to die like James Dean" Agent Orange "When You Least Expect It"
B: "¿Nuclear? No gracias!" Tonio K. "La Bomba"
A: "Is life as boring as you are?" B: "Well??? Who are the brain police?" Dead Kennedys "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables"
A fish "food chain" on Flipper's "Sex Bomb" single.

Any of you guys remember any that you may have found over the years?

"Phil + Ronnie" on "Let It Be"

There's a few on the Eagles "Live" 2 LP set too.

    ASPCA Protests Joe Walsh

I remember my copy of BEST OF JOE WALSH had the following joke on the runout groove, question on side one, answer on the other:

Q: What do you do for a dog with no legs?

A: Take him for a drag.

I also had an album with a dinner/bar date etched into it, something like: "Barney's Sat Nite 7:30 OK?"

And checking the previous thread, I see that these are not unique to a single piece of vinyl, as I had always thought.
