If you get a chance to visit Grand Rapids, MI, stop in to visit Gerry Dodd at Dodd's Record Shop, 20 South Division Avenue (616) 451-3161. Gerry's store may be small (24' X 32'), but it currently houses over 18,000 used LP's. My record collection, and my appreciation for Gerry, grows with every visit. He always has a moment to chat about music, and his LP knowledge, as one can imagine, is considerable. Pics dated August 2 2006.

If I could visit that store I'd probably never come out. I love how the crates are just all over the floor everywhere you look.

Are his LPs priced? My experience is that lots of stores like his (and there aren't lots of them left, but you know what I mean) have the "ask me and I'll tell you a price policy". I hate that and won't shop at those stores, because way too many times I've experienced the "search for hours, find a couple of OK LPs, bring them to the counter, and now they're more expensive than they're worth because if I want them, they must be valuable" routine.

Great, I'm going to have to drive over there next weekend. How big a hole will this burn in my pocket? ;) Does he accept credit cards?

Dang, I was over in that part of the state this weekend. I wouldn't have had time to go there anyway though. I did pick up these ones from a flea-market:

    LP:
Chicago- Chicago's Greatest Hits NM (still in shrink) $2.00
Herb Alpert- Rise NM(still in shrink) $2.00
Paul McCartney And Wings- Band On The Run VG (cover poor, but has
    poster) $1.50.
Steve Miller Band- The Joker VG (cover poor) $1.50
Three Dog Night- Hard Labor NM (cover VG) $1.50
Billy Vaughn- A Swingin' Safari VG (cover VG++) $.50
    CD:
    Supertramp- A&M Classics vol. 9 NM $4.00
    :D

My wife and I are planning to go to Saugatuck in a couple of weeks. I might have to plan a side trip up to Grand Rapids while we are in Michigan. Thanks for the tip.

I agree. Usually, if there are a lot of LPs, they are overpriced, because the good ones sell quickly. The junk stays forever.

Cool looking place , We have a similar place here in Missoula Mt , it's called "Rockin' Rudy's " . . . I have found a lot of Great Stuff here , and a with the Help of forum member " Dan " , I hooked up with " Graham's Used Records in Erie, PA "
I have found some hard to find LP's at Graham's , and his prices are fair, as is his Grading of the Vinyl .

That place somewhat reminds me of Encore Recordings in Ann Arbor, where he has LP and CD shelving stacked higher than me! :D Nice to see another vinyl store thriving.

Wow, cool place. We had a store here in South Florida for many years called Sid Arthur Oldies. A very similar store where on any given day you could walk in and ask Sid about a particular song. He would then tell you which box it was in, where in the store the box was and how far down in the box said record was. Trust me when I tell you that he had boxes piled from the floor to the ceiling in every inch of the store too. There was nothing Sid Arthur didn't know and everyone in South Florida knew he was THE man when it came to music espcially oldies. Sadly, Sid passed away some years ago.
