That was really quite an amazing ending price. I was watching it myself. The ending price is a surprise, but you don't see very many of the 35DP 4's on ebay. It almost makes me want to list mine! :D

I was outbid. That's in insane territory for me. I'll "settle" for the Mastersound.

Not a bad idea at all when the alternative is going for over $300. I like it, but it is not that good.

:agree: The Mastersound will just have to do

  6. That CD is very rare, and for the collector, it's a must have. I have the Mastersound Gold, and the Japanese 32DP 359, and they both sound great in my opinion. But the 35DP 4 is supposedly the best mastering, and one hell of a nice collector's piece.

Also, I think when someone posted a link to the auction in the "WYWH" thread in the Music Corner, it jacked the price up quite a bit.

 Two years ago they used to go for over $500 on a regular basis.

I was 'watching' that. At that price all I can do is watch.

Wow! That's some serious coin! I don't know if the winner is a member here, but I have seen him on eBay before. Anyway, it's a great-sounding disc in my opinion, but that's just too much for it. That said, I am reminded that a copy with the OBI strip went for $483 on eBay two years ago.

Something to bear in mind here. This disc is quite uncommon in my experience, but the seller of this latest copy, muff8678, has a way of coming up with several copies of a first pressing in a short period of time. I would not be shocked if he had another copy up in a week or two. In the past, he has offered several copies of discs over 4-6 weeks that I had rarely if ever seen on eBay previously. Examples include the 35DP 7 version of Barbara Streisand Guilty, 35 8P-11 version of Michael Jackson Thriller, and 32DP 371 version of Paul Simon Greatest Hits, Etc.

If muff8678 does come up with a few more copies of Wish You Were Here, you might not want to hesitate, though. His supply does dry up eventually. He hasn't had copies of Guilty or Thriller in awhile.

For those who may be wondering as to how this seller gets several copies of these otherwise rare first pressings, I have no idea. All I can say is that he is absolutely legit. I have purchased from him many times and have never had a problem. Discs are always as described, and he ships fast.

Would anyone who owns it post the total timing of the JPN CD 35DP4 disc? Thanks

    Mine's 44:12 according to EAC.

  14. Same time here Dave. After pulling this thing out to check the time, I realized this might be the prettiest looking CD I've ever seen. That gold tint really makes this CD. :agree:

What is DIDP 5 0004 (mine) and how it compares to 35DP4?

Oh, I see. The lettering around the hole shows 35DP-4, but the serial numbers are DIDP 5 0004 and CK 33453.

Umm.. mine doesn't look like the one in the recent auction. The printing is different and it is plain silver.

Pablo, yours looks like the Japan for USA 1st pressing. The other one is the Japan for Japan 1st pressing. I'd be willing to bet that even though yours is sourced from the same source as the Japanese 1st pressing that it does sound different. I have seen this type of situation before FWIW.

    Hello Dave.

Yes, this was purchased in the US, in NY probably.

If someone wants to compare this issue (on the PC) with the real one, let me know what you need from me.

    Thanks.

I was the winner of the $260 disc- I guess it was a bargain considering the price some have gone for....

    Pablo,

Your Japan pressed, USA issued cd with the 35DP-4 in the matrix code uses the same mastering as the 35DP-4 Japanese first pressing and sounds exactly the same. I have both versions and have found this to be the case. Forum member KeithH also has both cd's and has commented that they sound the same to him as well.

Congratulations on coming across this great find in your cd collection Pablo.

    Thanks TM!

I'll make sure that my wife knows. Me, I don't have plans to cash in, neither the album nor myself anytime soon.

    Best regards.

Pablo, there is a good chance with this one that the PC will miss the differences if they're subtle. The only truly honest way to know is to compare the real pressings side by side I'm afraid.
