I have an early (got it in 1972) pressing of the first Zeppelin LP where the left & right channels are swapped. For instance on "Babe I'm gonna leave you" the acoustic guitar is on the left channel and the vocal is on the right channel. Likewise on "Good times, bad times" the high hat comes from the left channel. On every other source I compared it to , the opposite is true.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

What's the label look like? Is the pressing heavier than most Atlantics? Are the edges rounded more than most Atlantics? Is the label more vibrant? Does the bottom copyright NOT mention Warner Bros?

    What's the matrix say?

Sorry for all these questions, but what you may have is a weird reissue.

The answer to all your questions is yes! I'm comparing it to a Led Zeppelin 2 purchased at the same time. The label is the standard red and green Atlantic label with the "1841 Broadway" address along the bottom.
    Atlantic SD 8216
Matrix: "ST-A-681461C" also has"AT/GP" and "PR". Same thing on both sides.

    Funny that!
I compared an original U.S. of "Physical Graffiti" to a Canadian reissue and yep, the channels were reversed!

    Who contols these things?

Could be lots of reasons. Sometimes the wiring of a cutting console is backwards, sometimes a tape copy is made with the channels reversed.

Could be anything. They didn't care too much back then about stuff like that!

    Don't fret too much.

    Apparently, no one.

Weren't the channels on the Rock And Roll LP by the Beatles also reversed?

On old tube preamps they had a "reverse channels" knob on the front that did just that.

At any rate, they goofed when cutting the record. Maybe it's rare that way!
