Saw this today for $40 used and went for it. All I can say is...

    WOW!

I don't see how this album could sound any better. This is just unbelievable to my ears!

It's a prize, all right. And you got it for a pittance! Enjoy!

One of my earliest gold CD purchases. Didn't know what a "mastering engineer" did back then but enjoyed this disc. Impresses friends as well.

Yep. A true winner! Since Doug Sax was involved in this one I wonder what differs between this and the more common remaster?

WYWH never sounded BAD on CD. There's just different colorations and masterings done, some from tape copies.

If you have a black-label Harvest, the CBS Goldie, the original CBS CD or the new mastering (Sony OR Capitol) they all sound GRREAT. I prefer the Gold, but I hardly think it's a huge head-up on any of the others.

I prefer the gold over the earlier CBS cd issue I also have.

It seems that this gold cd is one of they few Mastersound cd releases Sony got right.

I lucked into a cheap pre-owned copy of this gold cd a few months ago. A nice addition to the collection.

    Super audio?

I haven't spun this disc for a while. I heard the title track while getting my hair cut today. I think it's time to sit down with it again.

The shine on box is slightly more accurate than the mastersound gold. Still a very good sounding, nothing to sneeze at. Peace Todd.

    Slightly more "accurate" how?

I'm certainly not speaking for wildchild, but I did find that the 1997 MasterSound version of WYWH has a great deal more instances of clipping than the 1992 remaster.

According to the waveform analysis in Adobe Audition, the '97 MasterSound has 846 "possibly clipped" samples, while the '97 remaster has only 34.

That aside, the two versions sound almost identical to me, except that the MasterSound seems a bit warmer and has slightly fuller (rounder, punchier) low-end.
