I just got done doing a shootout on various pressings of Who’s Next using the track Won’t Get Fooled Again.

UK Track early pressing Stamper B2
US Decca 1st pressing Stamper W1
    Classic 1st pressing run
    MCA Heavy Vinyl

    Here are my impressions.

UK Track – Best top end clear and open, nails the vocal perfectly. Extremely deficient in bass. Drums have the snap but no wack. Very detailed.

US Decca – Smooth, evenly balanced great mid-range, above average bass but lacks the detail of the UK Track. Vocals are nicely delineated from the instruments.

Classic - Outstanding bass, drums sound “real”, vocals are recessed sounding. Guitar tone is dead on.

MCA - Balanced but overall sounds a generation removed. Good bass but vocals sound homogenized. Guitar sounds very recorded compared to the Classic.

Just for the record I have no problem tracking the Classic.

Tommy thanks for this! How do the drums sound on the MCA?

Yeah, my feeling exactly which is why I did it. Hey at least I didn't add in the German, Canadian Audiophile or any other pressings I had laying around.

I like a little bass and nice vocals and midrange, so my Decca fits the bill there. It's like you describe. Don't have any of the others.

It's a toss up between the Decca and Classic. Classics bass and drums are very addicting.
