Those Communists!! China bans lip-synching effective September 1st

Watch out, Ashlee Simpson!!

According to this article, " the government will severely punish any firm or singer involved in lip-synching." (second to last paragraph)

I read another article where the Chinese government considered lip-synching as "consumer fraud". Hmmmm.... I remember many years ago, there was proposed legislation in Arizona (I think) that any pre-recorded material played back during a concert performance must be printed as a disclaimer on the ticket. I wonder if that bill passed.

Please, this thread is about lip-synching only. No politics or anything else.

I find this rather ironic when you consider that it is near impossible to get the Chinese government to honor U.S. patents and patents from other countries. Sorry for the commentary but, hard to avoid...

I live there! Every Chinese group whether professional or not lip-sync on Chinese TV and it is SOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAD. But I am sure they are just saying it, they won't really do anything about it. That is the Chinese way. If they do do it it won't be against any of the 100,000,000 awful boy/girl groups from China but they will try to "punish"(or whatever) some evil corrupting foreign singer/group probably from Japan. This is just FACE folks, just words with no real action. Again that is the Chinese way!

Lip-synching was a plague of russian music biz for many years as well. There were several suggestions to ban it legaly but unfortunately nothing came out of it so far. I would love to see a serious punishment for that because in case of many local stars - people never even heard their true voices, they only heard studio achievements.

No need to ban it, but there should be a clear warning on posters, promotion material and tickets. No warning - people get their money back. That should teach 'em :p

Like most laws, here or there. Meaningless without enforcement.

Patents, copyrights - 50 years? 75 years? Who decides the years? Why not 5 years? Why not 100 years? The debate can go on forever.
