This was posted today 4-08 in our stations daily rock news info:

"A 2oth anniversary of Dire Straits' 1985 album, Brothers in Arms, will be re-released in a special surround-sound mix next month. The album has sold over 20-million copies, yielded three Top 20 singles -- "Money for Nothing," "Walk of Life" and "So Far Away" -- and was number-one in 22 countries."

    Bring it on!

I almost got the xrcd! I think I'll hold off until I near which format. I hoping SACD, as Mark's latest (Shangra-La) (sp?) is available as a hybrid overseas.

Since this was one of the first digital recordings, I wonder whether the sonics can be improved much by doing it in SACD. Would it have to be converted from PCM format? I would not care much for a surround version, but I would certainly like to hear this in hi-rez stereo.

Hope it's a hybrid! That way I can get all my Mark Knopfler hybrid stuff in one take!

Note: Shouldn't HighFidelityReview.com be all over this story as well?!

    Excellent!!!

I've almost pulled the trigger on the XRCD a dozen times. Now I'm glad I waited

BTW, the Shangri-La SACD is marvelous. Music is pretty good and the sonics are amazing. Very warm and lush sounding.

This is fantastic news! SACD to boot! This is one I would buy at any cost! (Heck, I spent $30 for the Shangra-La SACD!) Hopefully, it will be sold as an SACD here in the US. If not, get those "import" orders ready!

I hope it "sounds" good! :D

 That's kind of an odd comment for someone who started a thread and petition to save SACD.

Indeed. Recorded on a Sony 24 track digital recorder at Air Studios, Montserrat. That recorder was probably using 44.1 kHz sampling, 16 bit word length, but I can't find a definitive statement on the Web. Anyone?

It will be interesting to hear it against my XRCD.

I hope it's a big seller and encourages Dire Straits to crank out those analogue recordings of their previous (and better sounding) albums on SACD.

Amazon.uk is listing an "import" which is a CD + DVD Audio 2 disc set.

What I've read it is a 44.1/16 recording.

Well, I've read people saying that (for example, see AA) and I'm almost prepared to believe it.
