Do any LRB fans here know if they've finally used the correct mixes and masters on the 2000 expanded version of the Greatest Hits? I'm talking about the one with the cover of the girl swimming on it? I want to get it again but I don't want to get the same 'wrong' version. It just ain't right to hear anyone but Glenn Shorrock singing 'Take It Easy On Me' and horns on 'Man On Your Mind'. :)

I believe the band complained about the 2000 expanded version of "The Greatest Hits" as something they didn't approved of.

I guess I didn't realize the original Greatest Hits with the girl on the front had the wrong mixes. I did note that the 2000 expanded one has a couple of songs that sound different... different mixes from what I've heard since the songs came out in the 70s and early 80s, but I'll have to do some checking to be more specific.
I've got 3 different copies of Greatest Hits and they all sound different.

Well whoever is singing 'Take It Easy On Me' on my copy ain't Glenn Shorrock. And I NEVER heard 'Man On Your Mind' with a horn section until this came along.

Goldmine's February 4, 2005 cover article on Little River Band explained the different mixes on the 2000 "expanded" edition of the "Greatest Hits" album (scroll toward the bottom) and all the legal battles between members....

Take a listen. That sure sounds like Glenn.

The best thing about Definitive however is the full 8:40 version of It's a Long Way There.

Why not just get the 2CD Reminiscing? It too has the full It's A Long Way There, and many other songs not on the Definitive.

VERY interesting article!!! Thanks! I see that I'm one of the 10,000 or so people who got the 'expanded' edition of the Greatest Hits cd with the alternate mixes of 'Take It Easy On Me', Night Owls' and 'Man On Your Mind'. Cool. I never had plans to get rid of the cd and in fact, I still have the regular edition on cd. I just wanted to get the 'expanded' edition with what I consider the 'real' tracks as originally heard. I understand that their contract forbade Capitol from doing so but I think and 'expanded' edition with the 'normal' tracks AND the odd mixes as a bonus might have been nice.

Wow, as a longtime fan of LRB I would LOVE to hear these "WRONG" versions! I completely passed on this CD when it was released, as I already had everything on it and in good sound. I can't believe that it has been 5 years for someone to enlighten me about this different take CD! I want that CD!!!

This is a pure guess on my part but I would say 'yes'. According to the article posted upthread, legally the company wasn't allowed to use the alternate mixes in the first place.

A week or two ago I ordered the BSG DVD from HMV in Australia. With the shipping I paid about $28 dollars in USD. Not bad. Of course, I see from the Goldmine article that they are going to be releasing it here in the States. It figures. No matter. I like that some Australian person had a job for another day. :)

I want that DVD too, but it is NOT a "Region 1" DVD and it won't play in my American DVD player! There are also a few John Farnham DVD releases that I would love to buy from down under, but again, that non-region 1 codeing problem!

I have a DVD player that was 'remote hackable' so that I could disable the Region Coding.

I think it's easier to get a DVD player that can switch regions but just make sure that it can play the SYSTEM! In other words, you can get a DVD player that will play the British Region 2 DVDs but make sure that it can play the British PAL system!

This BSG DVD will be the first time that I'm trying anything other than a Region 2 DVD in that player. I'm looking forward to it! :righton:

Yep, work is sure hard to come by in those third world countries. ;)

By the way, HMV Australia is frighteningly ezpensive. Try Chaos, Sanity or CDonline for a better deal.

Oh great. NOW you tell me! Well, if I get the B.S.G. cd I'll try one of those instead.

That's right but most of those other songs are from the post-Shorrock years. I had the 2 CD set for a while and found that I hardly ever played the second disc.

Also, have you seen what it's selling for nowadays!

OK. Here are 3 Ebay listings. The first two have the same UPC number as the copy of the 2000 version I have that has the alternate tracks which is: 72435-21911-2-3
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=307&item=4707602330&rd=1

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=307&item=4707620565&rd=1

This third one has the same cover, but the UPC is different from mine. It is: 077774602129
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=307&item=4705814626&rd=1

I am not the seller, realize this is NOT the Ebay section, but wanted to point out the differences in the UPC's for seemingly the same CD although I cannot be responsible for verifying whether the CD's being sold are the one's with the alternate tracks or not. I personally would search the used record/CD stores rather than trust Ebay for this.

I'm confused - I thought that the article said that the 2000 Greatest Hits CD subsequently replaced those "alternates" with the correct versions after that initial 10,000.

I believe that the article said that about 10,000 got out before Capitol pulled them back. If I am not mistaken, the top picture is the original 'un-expanded' Greatest Hits that came out in the 80's. Capitol then 'expanded' it and used some alternate mixes which they then had to change for legal reasons. So, in effect, there are TWO versions of the 2000 expanded edition. Both should have the same cover that you see on the bottom.

I've purchased several CDs from their retail outlets in Sydney. They're fine provided you don't mind (in many cases) Asian and South American manufactured discs/artwork.

The best thing they have at the moment is the Japanese pressed Dark Side of the Moon SACD for $AU15.00. No other SACDs though.
