Ooh! The fake WEA target CD thread! Part 2

I was browsing through archived threads on these forums, and came across the Fake WEA target CD thread from a year and a half back, where at least one member created and posted "target" CD label designs of discs that weren't targets in real life.

I was quite impressed by what I saw, so I decided to try my hand at making my own.

Andrew,

That was me who made the fake targets - and only me.

I like what you've done so far. However, are the Gorts going to let this thread go on any longer? The first thread was shut down because of it taking up disc space.

Andrew, very nice! I like those! However, I echo Kym's concerns that the thread will be closed.

That is an important point, and such concerns are understandable. In response, I decided to remove the attachments in my original post and replace them with links to the images on another server.

Now, it's time for some fun.

I'm fairly sure that the Chrysalis label was distributed by Warner Bros. in the United States, for at least part of the '70s.

Imagine: What if Chrysalis' Warner distribution deal continued into the '80s, and there were Chrysalis target CDs?

I think that this green and red color combination, used on Chrysalis labels of the '70s, works well on a target CD.
Now if only this version of Aqualung would sound as good as it looks!

Feel free to leave any comments.

Andrew, that Chrysalis is cool!

I'm glad you have the time to do these - unlike myself!

Wow, that thread really was a long time ago!

cool. but.

not sure about the Genesis one. did WEA release any 2-disc targets? I thought back then they just yanked songs off to make 'em fit on a single disc.

This triumvirate of albums happen to be a favorite of mine. Let's see what they look like in their target CD incarnations!

The original Warner Bros. release of Dire Straits Alchemy: Dire Straits Live was done as a West German target. I believe a couple Nonesuch two-disc sets were also done first as West German targets.

Good news! Here is today's batch of more fake target CDs.

U2...

I wonder why The Unforgettable Fire wasn't issued as a target CD to begin with: It was released at the right time.
This design is (loosely) based on the non-target of the same title.

Here's another title by Genesis:

And now, it's time for another surprise!

What would have happened if Columbia had not acquired the rights to the two albums Bob Dylan recorded for Asylum in the '70s?

The answer:

I think many of us would be happy for this title to exist on any CD!

This is a custom color combination based on the Reprise label of the '70s.
In actuality, I don't think there were many Reprise target CDs, and those that exist simply used the same red/white or red/bare aluminum color combination as Warner Bros. targets.

For today, here's Metallica...

...Jimi Hendrix, also bearing my custom Reprise color combination...

...and, as usual, another surprise.
What if a contemporary artist decided to use a target CD label design on a current release?

Of course, nowadays Reprise isn't a Warner Communications Company (\\`), the discs aren't made in West Germany by PolyGram, and don't have aluminum running all the way to the center whole of the disc. Still, what's wrong with fantasizing?

Too bad this Times Fades Away target dream never came true.

Re: Ooh! The fake WEA target CD thread! Part 2

It's fake target season again! Here's an interesting twist I concocted, for a Geffen title that barely missed the target CD era:
