Since the other thread was danglin' on the verge of 200 (mostly brief) posts, I figured I would start fresh with this one before things got too unwieldy. So who can guess the identity of this "great director" who has replaced William Goulding in my Avatar?

    Let the guessing begin...

Note to future thread visitors: as my avatars get replaced, the earlier posts make less and less sense since the pictures to which they refer are replaced, so you are better off starting with the most recent posts to follow along.

    Regards,

Why not attach it as a thumbnail in your post that signals a new round?
Wouldn't necessarily be a space hog.

Sorry Ken, I've been working on this one, if no one else has. Is he directing or reflecting?
    Hmmm...

I've been thinking about it, too, but my only thoughts so far are for a director used already.

There are no penalties for wrong guesses, and, in fact, two of them usually earn you a clue. :)

Well, OK, I'll use up a guess, though I know it's wrong: Anthony Mann.

Nobody has it yet, and there have been four guesses, so here's a substantially sized clue:

The biggest claim to infamy for this talented director is that in the late 40s, his testimony before the U.S. Congress was instrumental in directing the HUAC's attention towards Communism in Hollywood.

In terms of political ideology, he was 180 degrees from Dmytryk.

Nope. As another hint, the director in my avatar died prior to Kazan's 1952 testimony.
