I spent a productive day today, remastering and finishing the EVA CASSIDY "Songbird" 180 gram LP project for S&P Records at Record Tech. Rick Hashimoto, RTI's master pressman took the snaps.

    Who was Eva? Start here:

    http://evacassidy.org/eva/harr96.htm

Here is a shot of our group after finishing the cutting of side one.

    First row:

Kevin Gray, Bill Straw of Blix Street Records, me.

Second row: Pam Passamano, Lois Gerard of Blix Street and Sam Passamano.

I essentially had both the "S" and the "P" of S&P Records together for the first time during a cutting session. I've known Bill Straw for many years since the old MCA Records days. Bill signed Eva Cassidy to his Blix Street Records label, thus insuring her music would be heard and discovered all over the world. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for that. Bill is also the person who compiled and mixed the "Songbird" album, which has become famous in every country on earth. Thanks, Bill.

By the way, look for our special message on the lead out grooves (dead wax) of both sides of the Eva Cassidy "Songbird" LP.....

Another shot of the pressing room at Record Tech (RTI). Note the groovy (pun intented) records on the wall....

The barrel next to Pam holds the "flash" that is trimmed off the edge of the records. Note the pipes at the top of the shot, they move the hot vinyl from the vat to the press...

Kevin's vintage Neumann cutting system. Stereophile's Michael Fremer calls this system the best sounding he has ever heard.

Thanks for the great photos Steve! All I could think of while looking at the photos was how great Eva is going to sound on the new vinyl (and SACD as well I hope).

    Forgot this shot, guys:

Eva, side two, almost done, also known as "sweating out the cutting of OVER THE RAINBOW". Will it or won't it fit...

It kind of looks like they're looking down at a grave (to me at least).

The Neumann lathe has echo? Or is that more engineering humor?

Great photos! Thanks for sharing. Any plans for a re-master (CD or LP) of "No Frontiers" by Mary Black?

Its because in the previous picture Sam has his fingers on the stamper grooves!

Nice pictures. I too, am fascinated by the lathe immensely!
