    From Miller Anderson's facebook page:

"Sad to say Keef died last saturday . He had been ill for a few years . I suppose you should know . . ."

    RIP

Sad, but maybe now we can get some of his Woodstock performance released.

R.I.P. Keef... I agree on Woodstock performances.

Was introduced to him via an early John Mayall LP. I did a quick look and didn't come up with any articles of his passing.

Have a couple of LPs, haven't listened to in years; one of those things I bought used with no prior listening experience, just looked interesting. RIP.

Oh man. I just put up Overdog on the Underplayed Classic Rock thread before seeing this. Very sad.

    RIP Keef.

I noticed the same thing. Miller Anderson's facebook page is the only place where it has been reported so far. Altough he published his autobiography and the Keef Hartley Band catalogue (as well as the brilliant Dog Warrior album) was re-released by Esoteric in the recent year, he kept extremely low profile. Even his own website has been down for a year or two.

And yes, i also hope that Keef's Woodstock recordings gets released at some point. And the BBC In Concert.

Its on Wiki now with the link to Miller Anderson's page, as November 26th, 2011. RIP.

I'm surprised this hasn't got more mention especially on this forum. Keef Hartley Band's albums are fantastic; Halfbreed, Battle Of The NW Six, The Time Is Near & Overdog are all essential LPs for any fan of English electric blues/psych/progressive rock of the late 60's.

Oh man what a bummer... I loved Keef (and Miller together...)

I'll dig out my original UK Overdog Lp next up and remember his drumming fondly.

    RIP Keef!

I hope this news isn't hitting those who played with him too hard. I am especially thinking of Mick Taylor with this news because he had a great rapport with him on the Crusade album. This is sad news. I was introduced to Hartley by way of his association with John Mayall.

Wow - just listened to the "Little Big Band" LP a few days ago, of course without knowing about this turn of events.

    RIP

Damn..! What a great drummer this man was. Just listen to John Mayall's live album "Moving on" from 1973. Hartley wasn't an official member of Mayall's band at the time but Mayall just had him flown in from the UK a day before the show and Keef joined the band on stage without really knowing the material. The way he kept the whole thing together that night -as witnessed on the recording- speaks volumes about his capabilities.

I also happen to like the first Keef Hartley band album 'Halfbreed' a lot. The albums after it are quite different due to Miller Anderson's songwriting input, not bad at all though. But Halfbreed to me is the perfect symbiosis of early Jazzrock/British Blues/Rock. I think I'm gonna play 'Too much thinking' next. Been having that song in my head last week.

    Keef, thanks for the music.
