I'm sure this thread has been done before ...

Anyway, I'm looking for some great sounding vinyl pressings, ones that are easy to find and will cost me close to nothing. In my modest collection, I think something like Boston's debut and Billy Joel's Glass Houses qualify.

So, what else should I be looking for?

    A couple for starters:

The Police - Synchronicity - Look for MASTERDISK RL in the deadwax
Quarterflash - Look for "Wally" in the deadwax

If you like Billy Joel, The Stranger sounds really nice on vinyl. I think I have two different Sterling pressings - Bob Ludwig (RL) and Ted Jensen (TJ) but I'd have to dig them out to check. I remember liking the sound of both. I like finding Mr. Ludwig's initials in the deadwax when hunting for good-sounding pressings.

Another goodie - Fleetwood Mac (self-titled from 1975)

Thanks for the tips, guys. And thanks for the link, Randy ... that second one especially is very helpful.

A hint for hunting for a first pressing: hold the vinyl up to a light - first pressings were on purple vinyl, not black.

I just checked both of my copies and one is purple with Masterdisk RL in the deadwax.

    Heart - Dreamboat Annie
    ZZ Top - Deguello
Oliver Nelson - The Blues And The Abstract Truth

Little Feat - Time Loves A Hero - easily found for a dollar, excellent sound.

Excellent suggestions. The RL Stranger sounds best and is hard to find, but not impossible. Look for a copy of Fleetwood Mac with "KENDUN " in the deadwax. Cheap, easy to find, and fantastic sounding.

Paul Simon's Graceland, the original "less than $10" vinyl version, betters the CDs I've heard, in my opinion.

R.E.M. - Document and Lifes Rich Pageant (RL). They are common as can be and super cheap. They are amazing sounding slabs of vinyl.
