This SHM-SACD is set to be released this week so thought we should dedicate a thread to it since a lot of us have it on order.

    Let the reviews begin! :)

oooh! Can't wait to read about this one.

I have all of these on pre-order, with Tattoo You, so I'm not getting them until later in the summer.

    I'm masochistic like that.

But I'm totally into reading these comments!

I am curious about this one. Do you have the Vlado Meller CBS CD? I wonder how the flat transfer from these live tapes will work. Hopefully, this will create more "LYL" fans. I prefer the funky, decadent Stones (Billy Preston, piano; Ollie E. Brown, percussion) to the "Ya-Ya's" Stones.

LYL is sloppy, not that there is anything wrong with that, but Mick kind of slurs all the vocals, which can get on some people's nerves. Love the cover of Crackin' Up though.

Should be interesting to see if The Who-Singles has the same skipping problem as Songs In The Key Of Life.

Sorry about going a little off-topic here, but if you have an Oppo DV-980H universal player and are having these skipping problems you described, then this firmware update corrects the problem. I have verified this fix a few weeks ago and have had no issues with the SHM-SACD "Songs in the Key of Life" since I did the firmware upgrade.

    http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/dv980h-firmware-21-1031.asp

The following is from the firmware release notes:

    1. Improved SACD Error Handling

When playing certain SACDs and the player encounters an encoding error on the disc, previous firmware versions skip to the next track. This version handles the situation more gracefully - it ignores the error and continues to play the track. So far only two such SACD titles are identified - "Heathen by David Bowie" and "All the Way ... A Decade of Song by Celine Dion". Our test indicated that when the error is ignored there is no audible glitch.

Got my copies of the two new Stones SHM-SACDs today, both mastered by the same two guys who mastered Sticky Fingers. Also got the Elton John SHM-SACD, mastered by one of the guys who mastered the Stones disc - also at FX Copyroom.

Will report more after I listen.

I haven't finished listening to the whole disc yet, but it sounds really nice. I believe Mick McKenna and Richard Whittaker at the FX Copyroom have done another great job.

Just for kicks I pulled out my "Collectors Edition" original album packaging remastered by Bob Ludwig using UV22 Super CD encoding and compared the first two cuts on the album (It's Only Rock and Roll and Ain't Too Proud to Beg). No contest, the SHM-SACD sounded better then that CD. The new SHM-SACD was mastered louder, but when trying to match the volume as best as possible, I could tell the SHM-SACD had a more open sound, better overall dynamics and better frequency extension on both the low and high end.

I think those who liked Sticky Fingers are going to find a lot to like about this disc (and I have only heard the first 4 songs on the SACD so far!!).

Put it on and just smiled. Always loved the shambolic sound of this album. This one's great, natural and deeper. I thought the CBS disc was best before this.

+1. My Sticky Fingers was posted a couple of days ago along with The Who, The Singles.

My SACD player is away being modified in anticipation of Mr Postman arriving with the goodies. I just hope the player arrives home before the disks.

Anxiously awaiting some detailed reviews. I love Sticky Fingers on SHM SACD. I will probably buy this anyway, but these SHM SACDs are quite pricey-gotta save up some cash!

I am dying to listen to this, as it's sitting at home on my shelf. Plan to clear some time on Sunday to do so.

All these order/shipping updates and posts from people who haven't yet listened to it are fascinating.
