    Reports: Guarini Dropped By RCA

RCA had no comment on reports that Justin Guarini, the second-place finalist for the first season of "American Idol," has been dropped by the label. The eponymous debut album by Guarini -- who is no longer listed on the RCA Web site -- has sold 134,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

By contrast, the debut from first-season "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson, "Thankful," has sold 1.7 million. Second-season finalist Clay Aiken's "Measure of a Man" has sold 1.3 million since its release in October.

Guarini did not appear on last week's Fox "An American Idol Christmas" TV special, although he was initially announced as one of the performers. 19 Entertainment, which signed Guarini to a management deal after his appearance on "Idol," did not return calls by deadline.

Guarini's record-label woes aren't the problem facing the singer. As previously reported, on Nov. 7 he was sued for more than $100,000 by a Pennsylvania couple claiming injuries from a rear-end auto collision that Guarini was involved in last year.

"American Idol's" third season premieres Jan. 20, 2004. According to published reports, music producer Pete Waterman, a judge on the U.K.'s "Pop Idol," is in discussions to join the show as a fourth judge alongside current "American Idol" judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. In an exclusive interview with Billboard.com, Cowell hinted that a fourth judge would be joining "American Idol," but the show's reps had no comment.

I'm really not surprised since he this guy had very little talent and didn't deserve to be signed by a label.
Before everyone starts chiming in with "All the American idol singers suck", "The music is horrible", etc. Remember that Shelly Fabres, Paul Peterson, the Osmonds, etc all had a TV forum to expose themselves to the world. Preteens and teenagers need music to identify with and this is it.
I just think Justin sucked big time. Kelly Clarkson's and Clay stuff isn't too painful and I can see why it's successful to the teenybopppers.

If Guarini's career is sinking, he has no one to blame but himself. What's he done besides a bad movie, a lot of partying, and a couple of scrapes with the law?

Kelly Clarkson does have the potential for a long term career if she doesn't fall into the Mariah Carey-diva trap.

I hope nobody says anything bad about Shelly. She is my "dream girl" from the Johnny Angel days through the two Elvis movies she did.

Many years later is was Olivia Newton-John for me, buy Shelly was my first!

It doesn't matter how you got your big break - hell, it doesn't matter whether or not you have talent! - it's all about the record sales and Benjamins. If you don't sell, you get cut...

The more interesting note for me is the last paragraph of the article that mentions Pete Waterman of PWL fame possibly becoming a fourth judge on AI.....I'll bet that he is actually being considered as Simon's replacement, since Mr. Cowell has other ventures planned for himself...

BTW, Pete will do well as the new "Angry Brit."

Simon Cowell recently signed a three-year deal with "American Idol", so despite his bitching otherwise, he isn't going anywhere. It'll be interesting to see TWO "Angry Brits" on this show.

Justin Guarini had the least talent of any finalist on this show. Not surprising to see his career vanish.

He should pray for a live action version of "The Simpsons". He's a shoe-in for Sideshow Bob.

Good point. I'd venture to say it also doesn't matter about scrapes with the law, or even sexual trysts with minors.

Jeez, I must be tired. I thought you meant he dropped by for a visit. I thought people must really be getting desparate for new topics.

I'll second that! There was the very attractive Shelley (though I never cared for the Donna Reed Show), and also - who remembers Deborah Walley? She was a cutie, too.

    Let's see ... add Ann-Margret too. Loved the 60's.

Not to mention ABBA. Their start came with the Eurovision Song Contest (winning song: "Waterloo.")

But I'm playing devil's advocate... the music IS horrible ...

He needed a clever covers album to market to the kids, maybe "Guarini meets Guaraldi: From Justin to Linus."

Our first Australian Idol finished a couple of weeks ago. Kelly Clarkson came out for one of the episodes to sing her song and "give her support" to the local contestants.

The winner was a young man named Guy Sebastian.

I think you'll get to see him (if you're interested!) when they hold the first "World Idol" during the next few months. The good thing about Guy is that he's more than just a singer. He plays, writes and arranges as well, although you wouldn't know it from the kind of material the record company is going to make him sing!

this fiasco is far from over.

    renny

p.s. do they pay the audience members to scream like they do?
