This just in from HMV Japan:

    [WPCR-14165] The Eagles Hotel California
    [WPCR-14166] Deep Purple Machine Head
    [WPCR-14167] Yes Fragile
    [WPCR-14168] Chicago Chicago V
    [WPCR-14169] Linda Ronstadt What's New

The price will be ¥3,200. Those will be hybrid discs, including a multichannel mix.

This batch is set to come out on 8/17.

Anyone heard about this yet ?

Probably the same mix as on the DVD-A.

    Sounds nice.

The ¥4,500 price tag for single-layer was kinda prohibitive.

One thing bad is they'd probably use US Deep Purple masters, as it is on Warners...

Let's just hope this is the beginning-not the end..

  7. First mention I have seen and if it is false, it is a rather detailed false story. The price if I checked conversion rates correctly will be $40 plus shipping to the US.

Warner have at long last re-bitten the Super-Audio bullitt.
Whats the betting SACD will be back as a mainstream format?
Why has it taken 10 years for them to realise that SACD is the way to go?
For their next trick, a Led Zeppelin SACD immersion box set.

I don't find this even remotely interesting. Every one of these titles has been released as multi-channel DVD's - it's clear that they are just getting value from previously existing mixes. That's fine, but there is no indication that there is any intention to invest in and release anything new.

But its significant that is Warner who after 10 years of subjecting us to DVD-A are finally releasing SACDs.

    [WPCR-14165] The Eagles Hotel California-Have the DVD-A
[WPCR-14166] Deep Purple Machine Head-SOLD the SACD
    [WPCR-14167] Yes Fragile-Have the DVD-A
    [WPCR-14168] Chicago Chicago V-Have the DVD-A
[WPCR-14169] Linda Ronstadt What's New-Don't care for the " easy listening " portion of her career.

At $40 give or take, it'll be a nice alternative to those not wanting to spend a lot more for the previously released versions, obviously I'm out.

I'm sure we'll see a few more - let's see, for September, there are the REM titles, then for October, there's Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Neil Young's Harvest and Greendale, and the Last Waltz. Maybe we'll get Alice Cooper Billion Dollar Babies, Jackson Browne's Running on Empty, and Carly Simon's No Secrets in November, etc. Maybe they can do the SACD release of that multi-channel Hootie and the Blowfish! I can see where this is going, and am not thrilled. Heck, aren't most of these titles still available on DVD-Audio for less than $40?

Anyway, I would love to be proven wrong. For me, Warner has THE catalogue, and when they announce that they are investing money in new multi-channel SACD mixes of Tusk, Sweet Baby James, Late for the Sky, 1999, Physical Graffiti, Blue, and Rust Never Sleeps, I'll be counting the days to release. But honestly, I'm not getting my hopes up.

Hmm, I don't have Hotel California and Machine Head in surround yet, and I'm a bit pissed off at the need for a TV or screen to play DVD-As. Maybe this is a nice opportunity for me.

Maybe Warner will "recycle" their DVD-A releases on SACD. Who knows....

This could be Warners testing the market and if these sell well that could prove to them the worth in investing and releasing other titles that have not had hi-def releases. I am also encouraged that they are multi-channel.
