This thread is for a discussion of the Danish TV series Forbrydelsen.

I'd like to start by saying I wish they'd remake it as a superior US series in English.

As opposed to a US series in Spanish or French? ;)

There is already a remake of this, called The Killing http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1637727/

and not to be confused with:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087280/
which I never knew about until I tried to search on Netflix for the availability of the Danish TV series you keep going on about. btw, they of course don't have the TV series Forbrydelsen. Where is it available in non- torrent fashion for US viewers?

Unfortunately, it's only available on Blu-ray in Germany (German dub only). It's not even available on blu-ray in Denmark even though it was shown in HD.

Im excited to see a thread for the Danish Tv 'The Killing'
How refreshing to see our American cousins embracing a 'not invented here concept'.
Perhaps they got Dave Dexter jnr jnr to produce it.

Both seasons have sold far more than American popular series as "24" over here.

Criticize the show all you like, it's your opinion, but for some reason you still can't seem to overcome your rather small-minded habit of speaking down to all Americans as if we're cavemen who wouldn't recognize art if it hit us over the head with a cricket bat.

That's a rather broad brush you paint with there, sir, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds it rather ridiculous that you would classify an entire country of millions the same way. Do all English people think alike? Do they like the same things to eat, drink, watch, read, listen to? DIDN'T THINK SO.

    Carry on.

Watched this (all 20 hour long episodes) on the great BBC4, it ended a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely wonderful television, had me totally hooked. There is a second series that has already aired in Denmark (2009) that starts later this year on the BBC. A third series is in production.

Well Hutlock , Dave Dexter jnr never appreciated the fabs.
He reprocessed, reprogrammed and re graphiced real art cos he didn't get it.
    Its still happening.

Just seen the openings of the US and Danish shows.
Still think the original is best.

    Have you done your homework?

I just looked at the title pages for the scripts for the debut episodes of both series. It looks like the American series is being done with a lot more care. Figures.

How about Faroese sweaters Kwad?, main talking point over here, especially black and white continuity issues......
Perhaps abandoned becos of Whale Harvesting in the Faroes, very bloody.

From the trailers it seems the Swedish hunk has been postponed from the opening ep, too complicated in a geographic sense perhaps, and yet another pesky language to cope with.

Care you said, sorry I read cars... Figures

I just finished season 1 this weekend and started season 2 last night. It was good, even great maybe, but not the best. Firstly, it was way too long for one season...20 episodes? It could have used some serious editing and the number of plot twists and potential perps reduced in number. I basically figured out who it was in the first few episodes, the crime seemed too brutal and personal to be random, but I'll admit there were a few times where I was second-guessing myself. There were a few continuity issues and some things that just didn't make sense timing wise, like I'm sure DNA and forensics results are just available in a few hours, especially in a bureaucratic socialist country like Denmark. Acting was often top-notch, at least as far as I could tell by reading body language along with subtitles.

I think I'm going to like season 2 much better, it's not as long for one thing and seems to be filmed with a larger budget. I also like the subject matter as I know issues with Muslim immigrants must be weighing heavily on what were in the past very homogenized cultures in Europe. I don't know who's doing the killing yet, but I think I see where they are going with the storyline.

Season 1 was not originally shown in 20 subsequent weeks in Denmark. The first 10 episodes were broadcast during the first ten weeks of 2007 while the rest aired during the fall of 2007.

Season 1 is generally regarded as the best but the other two seasons are good as well.

Season one is amazing. Almost on the same level as The Wire...I have only watched one episode of season two. I really liked the murder mystery and the political intrigue as well.

I originally watched The Killing (US) version which I though was good. Just started on the Danish version. After only 3 episodes I much prefer it already!!
