I did a search on this subject but I really didn't find anything. Curtis posted a link to a cool website that shows album cover locations via Google Maps: http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/album_atlas/FullListing.php I'll start off this thread with a few classics: THE ROLLING STONES - HOT ROCKS (Back Cover) Swarkestone Hall Pavilion, Derbyshire, UK BLACK SABBATH - BLACK SABBATH Mapledurham Watermill, Oxfordshire, UK THE BEACH BOYS - SURFIN' SAFARI Paradise Cove, Malibu, CA RUSH - MOVING PICTURES Ontario Legislative Building, Toronto, Ontario
I'm sure there will be more than a few from this spot - but here's my shot of the Abbey Road zebra stripes in 2005.
Planning on hitting the east side of Manhattan when it warms up to get the spots for Strange Days and the "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby?" single. I also get off at the Wednesday Morning, 3 AM 53rd St. subway stop for work every day - it looks largely the same, minus the wandering minstrels in suits. A Hot Hot Heat album was shot a couple of blocks away from my apartment; the Hold Steady's Separation Saturday was taken in my 'hood as well. Not famous at all, though, unless you're a Williamsburg hipster. I managed to snap the cover of Oasis' Morning Glory on Berwick St. in London about ten years ago - I'll look for the photo and try to get the scanner up & running...
I've been meaning to get a shot of the building from Physical Graffiti. Someone told me it's in the East Village.
A few more... THE BAND - MUSIC FROM BIG PINK (Back Cover) “Big Pink” House, West Saugerties, NY PINK FLOYD - ANIMALS Battersea Power Station, South London, UK LED ZEPPELIN – HOUSES OF THE HOLY The Giant’s Causeway, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, UK
New York City Locations: THE DOORS - STRANGE DAYS Sniffen Court, New York, NY BOB DYLAN - THE FREEWHEELIN' BOB DYLAN Jones Street, New York, NY THE WHO - THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT Carl Shurz Memorial, Morningside Park, New York, NY
This is by far the coolest thread hee in a long time. None of these locations are over-rated. (and there's no poll, either!)
I guess it's not 'famous', but I found out about it last year and thought it was pretty cool to know.
Great thread, and cool website. Tony Bennett's Portrait of the Artist (1990) features an old photo of him at in Astoria, Queens, New York. The back cover feature a recent photo of him at the same location. Here's the location, off Google Earth.
