I thought it would be interesting to see a list of what players DVD can :-

    1/ Output 24/96 through S/PDIF without downsampling?

    2/ Output 24/192 through S/PDIF without downsampling?

Many players will output 96 kHz sampling via the digital output as long as there is no copy protect proviso in the audio. Some will do 24/192 and I am hoping to pull a list together of the ones that do :)

    I can start with

    1/ Panasonic RP-82 - outputs 24/96 through S/PDIF

    2/ Panasonic DVD-S47 77 & 97 - outputs 24/192 through S/PDIF
    2/ Oppo 980H - outputs 192kHz through S/PDIF

I we can keep the list in this format

    1/ ******* - outputs 24/96 through S/PDIF

    2/ ****** - outputs 24/192 through S/PDIF

    That will be great :righton:

    Hi darkmatter,

You may want to clarify what source can be output at full resolution over SPDIF.

For example, a 24/96 or 24/192 stereo program on a Blu-ray disc will always (to my knowledge) be downsampled to 24/48 over SPDIF.

However, the same resolutions on a DVD-V or HDAD will pass over SPDIF in players like the OPPOs.

    :agree:

I will now limit this list to just DVD players for now but have recently seen a DAC that has an HDMI input for audio use?
I will save this for a future thread, Barry D had been researching Blu-Ray for audio and found this to be the case; seeing that BRD digital outputs limited to 24/48. 24/96 can be made available as LPCM through DVD-V on some of them.
One can safely assume that most or all the Oppo models will pass over their SPDIF O/Ps up to 24/192 from suitable DVD-V/A or HDAD discs.

    DM :)

Yes, all of the OPPO models do 24/96 or 24/192 over SPDIF, where the disc allows for it.

    Excellent thanks

    NB
The DAC quoted above uses HDMI to carry I2S (balanced) not standard HDMI cable format
