I'm sure a bunch of you have seen the report over at The Second Disc where it was reported that a link has supposedly been put up over at Amazon. This information was revealed by Pause and Play.
The new box set that we've been discussing every once in a while here is supposedly going to be called West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology. The report is saying it will be 4-CD's and a DVD. Due date will be October 19th.
In the report, Blues and BBC Sessions are also going to get the added DVD treatment to the CD's just like the recent catalog reissues from when EH made the switch over to Sony/Legacy. Due date will be October 19th.
I didn't see anything mentioned over here this evening on this board because I haven't been at my computer for basically the whole day. I don't know if I should have posted this yet or not or if I should have put this in the other existing thread where we've discussed this before. I decided to take a chance and put this up here for now. When we get the official track listing announcement, then we can either start a new one or continue things here. I hope I didn't screw things up here. It's strange. When I posted about the new Roby book in another thread yesterday, I had a funny feeling that something was going to stir about the Anthology box as my thinking was that the book was going to ride the coat-tails of the release in a way.

Interesting. I was wondering about the Anthology project the other day.

I couldn't recall which thread I had put the information from Rolling Stone from back earlier in the Summer which had some details given about what to expect from the box. The general description was that the box was going to be made up of rare and completely unreleased tracks. The track list is going to be the key. We have to see if this thing is going to live up to the rare and unrelease part. I've got my fingers crossed because it has the potential to be a fantastic box set.

Thanks for that Steve! Very welcome news. Love the title.

I'm quoting your April post re the blurb in Rolling Stone w/ a few details on the box. Sounds like it is all unre material spanning from '64 through the Black Gold demo

Like the Beatles Anthology CDs, the Hendrix set "will feature unreleased or commercially unavailable music, pulling it together in a cohesive way," says John McDermott, who is the director of catalog development for Experience Hendrix. "You get to hear 'My Diary' (a 1964 single made with Rosa Lee Brooks) to 'Black Gold' and some demos Jimi was working on before his death."

    - "Burning Desire" from January 16, 1970, an inst take of "Castles Made of Sand" from 1967 with just Jimi and Mitch and an alternate "May This Be Love" with different vocals and lead guitar will be part of the upcoming "multidisc anthology of rare and unheard music from the guitarist's early sideman recordings to some of his very last sessions."

-A "definitive documentary" by Bob Smeaton.

-Future releases mentioned are RAH '69 as well as Miami Pop '68.

-McDermott says he would also like to do a "proper presentation" of the JHE's October '68 Winterland stand.
-McDermott is still putting out the call for the lost Dallas June '70 pro video that was offered to Warner in 1970 but turned down.

Good lord, hearing an alternate "May This Be Love" has always been high on my wish list, especially since we found out that "Little Wing" doesn't extend more than a couple of seconds beyond the released version.

It's wonderful, and also a little weird that we can still look forward to hearing "new" Jimi Hendrix music forty years after his death in spite of all the myriad official releases issued posthumously. Amazing.

I have heard and have plenty of outakes of May This Be Love AKA Waterfall so I am hoping this set included stuff not on the 'Greymarket' and Bootlegs? I would love a boxset or two Cd set of all the mono mixes??

Great title. Sounds like a must buy. It is amazing that new material is still being released and that it is high quality. The guy must have had music oozing out of his fingers.

Imagine the amount of work he could have done over the past 40 years. It really shows how much a loss it is when someone dies so young.

No outtakes or alternate versions of May This Be Love circulate. There is the mono LP mix, stereo LP and a mix varient on some French 45 but that is it.

This is a 30sec clip of the ending of the alternate version which circulates, it has a totally different ending as you can hear, is it the French 45 or mono Lp mix, certainly is very different to the regular EH version??

Sounds like it may be that 'definitive documentary', but here's hoping we'll get some live footage or the like. :D

    Hooray!

I was just thinking about the anthology earlier this week, too. I think the fact that Valleys and some of the core stuff all made it on to the charts and must have sold pretty well for this era (and I think the Valleys single was Jimi's first U.S. No. 1 record) bodes very well for us in terms of future releases.

That this anthology is going to include Black Gold is enough for me right there -- I mean this is a dream -- I don't know if it will appear here, but those seven tapes that Jimi gave Mitch tied up in a bandana include a full live version of 3rd Stone from the Sun. I can't believe that I may finally get to listen to that in about ten weeks. Fantastic!

Your comment definitely caught my attention, because, like Chris, I was under the impression that mono, stereo, and the French single version, were it for May This Be Love. I appreciate your posting that clip, also.

The prospect of hearing an alternate approach to the solo, or a variation on the one we already know is thrilling to me. This solo is probably my single favorite moment of all of Jimi's recorded playing ...

Anyone know if it`s a title coined by Hendrix himself?-West Coast Seattle Boy
Yes!I`m happy this is really happening!

  19. well, that's great news, if it's really all unreleased/unavailable material; I hope they wil do a proper long box, to fit next to the purple box...

the only thing is I will then have to revise all the chronology-cd's I just compiled last year...:realmad: :D ;)

It's also going to be very interesting to hear some possibly unreleased pre-Experience/label signing Jimi from his formative years. October is turning out to be another whopper of a 4th Quarter month for me. That's nothing new.
I have just noticed that somebody started a thread after I did. Perhaps it can be merged with this one?

Why does "West Coast Seattle Boy" sound familiar.... I don't have any of my notes with me but I get the feeling I've heard that before.

Anyways, I'm excited by this announcement, I know some people are speculating that most of the set will be stuff that's been released before, but Black Gold tracks make me a happy boy. Can't wait.

Bender Rodriguez RIP Exene, best dog ever. 2005-2016

Same date the Dylan Mono Box drops (what is Sony thinking??).

Talk about a big hit to the wallet. I may have to skip buying music in September to afford these.
