John Lennon's drug intake in 1966-67
According to some respected sources (Derek Taylor, for one) John spent most of this year in a 'semi-permanent' state of highness, because he couldn't deal with his life any more.
During this time, he followed a slightly more relaxed version of the schedule he'd followed since 1960 or thereabouts - no touring, but some songwriting and quite a bit of recording. As someone who's never seriously taken drugs, I'm just wondering if Lennon's state during this time has been exaggerated/sensationalised? There aren't many filmed interviews of him around this period (the outside Abbey Road one in December '66 being the only one that springs to mind - in which he seems perfectly 'straight'), but I'm just wondering if anyone could have functioned properly on the kind of LSD for breakfast, lunch and dinner regime we're told he was under. There are plenty of photos from this time of John looking out of it and I don't doubt that he was quite a bit - but permanently? I wonder.... Anyone know anything more? |
